Unless he puts his car seat back in the car? apparently ex has told him he doesn't need it anymore. He is 8years old and 4ft 2. He still needs it, surely?

Legally, he should be in a car seat till 11 years old or 135cm. Your ex risks prosecution if he is not. YANBU to ask him not to break the law when it puts your DS at risk.

Apparently he is the same height as his 11year old step brother, so as he doesn't need a car seat neither does my ds.

I did mean booster seat, not actual car seat with a.harness Grin

No of course he doesn't need it anymore - don't you know that being the same height as your 11 year old step brother protects you ffrom injury in a car accident??

IneedAyoniNickname · 23/06/2013 19:16

Doh silly me chipping I'm too busy raising his kids to have a relationship and gain step kids, so the dine points pass me by!

Its 12 or 135 so they are breaking law twice tbh.

IneedAyoniNickname · 23/06/2013 19:18

I don't understand it either kim but oddly when I told ds he should have it, he just said that he'd tell his dad. I explained he does need one but sb doesn't as he is older. Ds didn't ask or seem confused, its his dad that doesn't get it!

We had the road safety lady from the council come and talk to my class of Y1/2 about crossing the road, car seats etc. About half the class reckon they don't use a booster seat any more (it's babyish!) and yet we measured a selection and showed them they were really too small to not have one. Glad I can blame it on a visitor when the parent come in to complain, which they will!
It's the law and he will get points and a fine as well as endangering your son which really is the point. The difficulty is making him do it.

VBisme · 23/06/2013 19:20

I don't understand why anyone wouldn't put a booster seat in for a child, and if his stepbrother is that small then I'd say he needs one as well, regardless of age.

IneedAyoniNickname · 23/06/2013 19:22

Ds2 who is 6.8 is still in a proper car seat in my mums car. She took the harness out so he had a booster and he kept messing around so she put it back in.

I don't care if he gets a fine obviously, but I do care about my pfb! I've told him before, and he.just ignores me. Apparently his gf said its ok, and she's a better mum than I am. (his words)

My 8 and 6yo are still in high backed boosters in my car.

For safety they should be in the lowest stage for their height/weight.

Their dad has them on booster seats but as legally they are past the minimum I can't stop him. If he took the car seats out he would not be taking my children in his car. They are far far to previous YANBU at all!
