It's the same sort of madness that sees people having chips with their lasagna. Double carbing is just all sorts of wrong.

mmmmmmmmm double carbs Grin

Isn't pizza and chips a fairly common theme in school canteens anyway? Obviously it isn't a whole pizza.

I agree spag bol definitely needs garlic bread, otherwise I'd be hungry again a few hours later.

OP, you are so U, and you are not U.

Garlic bread goes with everything. Fact.

Chips should never be served with any other carbs. Fact.

Yabu.

Chips is odd but garlic bread is not. Hence it being served at every Italian restaurant going.

Double carbs.......it is all relative. I am underweight and much too skinny so doubling up works for me!

Eh? I had lasagne and chips in Italy! It was on the menu! And Garlic bread (usually ciabatta) with pasta dishes. My Italian relatives (by marriage) don't seem to know any of these rules either!!
They fill up on a million different types of salad as well, though.

Yes! Similarly, if you order a sandwich in the Caribbean, it comes with macaroni cheese. That always used to amuse me.

I would do some salad with pasta or pizza. I always have a smaller portion and bulk it out with salad.

YABU

I've always had chips with pizza. I was served this at school for lunch 20 years ago and I'm sure DS has it for his school lunch now. Why is it odd?

As for too much carb - I think there will be less fat/calories in a meal with a few slices of pizza with oven chips (which is what we have usually once a week) compared to eating a whole pizza loaded with cheese & pepperoni.

Chips are also cheaper than buying more pizza so keeps costs down.

I do find garlic bread too much with pizza though & only have that as a starter if we are eating out.

A friend used to go out with a lady from Poland, we all went on holiday. One evening she looked at my pasta and garlic bread and said:

"SOUL! Your dinner is making me feel sick! Carb and carb? You cannot eat carb and carb! No one eats carb and carb!"

Cue every other British person round the table muttering their favourite carb and carb dish.

I think Polish women are usually very trim so I wish I was restrained like them....but pizza and chips is heavenly.

My favourite is takeaway chow mein and chips Blush

What's the difference between a large pizza on it's own and a small pizza with a small garlic bread? It's the same amount of carbs just one has garlic sauce and the other has tomato.

The same with lasagne and chips. If I have chips with it, or wedges, I'll do a smaller portion of pasta. It's the same amount of carbs, just done two different ways!

Yanbu, it is very strange.

I would have half a pizza with salad

Or garlic bread with some spicy chicken and corn on cob

Pizza and garlic bread is basically just having bread for dinner. I'm sure the same people eating this would think it funny if someone just offered them a loaf of bread for dinner.

I can't do lasagne and chips, but adore lasagne and coleslaw. Don't think the Italians would approve of that either though!
