I think I may just have found another. Come on Mumsnetters. Lets send some emails to this ridiculous advert. £25 a week pocket money to do childcare for a 4 year old. £25!

Thanks. I sent a response. Are you looking for a slave? I didn't put in a real email though.

Yeah that sounds awful, especially next. To really fun-sounding ones like this one www.gumtree.com/p/jobs/au-pair-in-france-near-paris-2013-2014/1018686077

I wrote "Do you think this is enough money to do the most important job in the world, caring for a child? Your child deserves the best care, not the best best bargain." I think people love their homes so much, they consider people lucky to get to live with them

Then I got to the pay Shock

There are some great looking au pair summer jobs. If I wasn't busy this summer already I would certainly apply.

I started the other thread. I didn't realize what a stir it would cause!! I can't believe how many horrible and cheap people are putting ads on Gumtree.
$25 a week!!! Surely it's a typo?? Confused Even back in the Middle Ages when I was an au pair no one made that little. I pay a lot more than that for dogsitting, and I'm paying more that that for a teenager to water my plants while I'm gone for a week!! I'm going to email the people. I'll let you know if I get a response.

And for those of you Mnetter's who have a DH here's a double slave position www.gumtree.com/p/jobs/live-in-au-pair-couple-required-to-live-in-jersey-part-of-the-british-isles/1003422740#photo-content where you get to buy your own food. Tossers!

There are some lovely ones.

A really nice family will be in London for the summer and need someone to help them with some light Housekeeping, cooking braekfast and dinner, occasionally supervising their 6 year old and helping with the elderly mother in law. The mother in law is very capable, but needs a little assistance with walking around the home etc...
You will be staying in serviced appartments in Kensington, so the housekeeping load is very little and you will have your own room and bathroom. You must be a willing and cheerful person.

Hours: 12 hours with a break and some occasional babysitting
6 days a week
Salary: £400+ net p/w
Accomodation: Your own room and bathroom in serviced appartments
Start Date: 5th July until 13 September
Interviewing: ASAP

To apply for this position you must have at least 4 years experience in the UK and have a cheerful disposition.

But I suppose I am viewing them from the perspective of holiday job rather than my full time career.

Cromer, the monstrous sexism in that advert upsets me more than the slave labour!

Report
ZenOfPetals · 20/06/2013 19:53

That last one is incredible. Not only the slavelike conditions, but the way she has no regard for Internet safety!

Cromer?? I typed "crikey".

Sleepyhoglet · 20/06/2013 19:53

Woah honeystep. That's such exploitation.

The pay is £210/week for both of you (not each) but you will have to buy your own food out of this money

I mean, the Jersey Island one

Report
JacqueslePeacock · 20/06/2013 19:56

But I'm most distressed that the "female" has to do the breakfasts and childcare, while the "male" does manly stuff outdoors. He does clean the house, but if he wants his wife to do that instead as well as all her work, that's ok too.

Report
Sleepyhoglet · 20/06/2013 19:57

Also, re the jersey ad, why is it relevant that english schools in jersey are very expensive? Ok...so tell us you have lots on money, then offer a ridiculously low wage. I also know how expensive food is in Jersey.
