Re Potato Wedges and DH - he has agreed to abide by MN decision (trivial)

So MN jury its up to you - DH has agreed that whatever you decide, he will stick with...

Last night we were discussing what to have for tea tonight - agreed quiche and salad. He eats half of a family size quiche.

He thinks this is insufficient (with salad - bog standard so I don't drip feed, lettuce, tomato and cucumber), so I am doing potato wedges with it.

The wedges are big. He wants FIVE. I told him this was pure gluttony and three would be sufficient. He thinks I'm being silly.

Thanks to you, OP, I am now having wedges for dinner. FYI I will have about 6, DH will have about 8. 3??!! That's just mean.

mrsjay · 18/06/2013 16:40

I have just put my wedges in the oven Grin

supergreenuk · 18/06/2013 16:42

As many as he wants. Your not his mum.

Owllady · 18/06/2013 16:47

I think half a quiche is alot to eat
we only have a quarter each
:o

DeskPlanner · 18/06/2013 16:50

I love how the. most trivial of threads really take off. Grin

Give him 5 If that's what he wants, Imo.

MsGee · 18/06/2013 16:52

Hug DH is now having the whole packet. Don't worry, I have accepted IWBU and am repenting my sins Grin

Good to see everyone having wedges!! Grin mrsjay

I might actually try to make the frittata... if it starts referring to adult supervision I should be able to manage it!

Re being DH mum. If I was his mum he would have had 1 potato wedge. And only a third of a frey bentos pie. So he is marginally better off with me Wink

I don't know if I am embarrassed or pleased that my most successful thread is
(a) about wedges
(b) so trivial
(c) universally agreeing IWBU and am a stingy hostess

In my defence if you come to my house for a meal, I would serve a lot of wine. Surely that helps?

SixPackWellies · 18/06/2013 17:00

That helps, OP, that helps.

:)

Actually, this thread has reminded me of a dinner I went to given by my aunt. Who fed 7 adults and two toddlers 5 salmon fillets and a single pack of green beans between us.

Not that you are as bad as that of course!!

Grin

Man I got plonkered that night........ we also managed to polish off certainly 5 bottles of wine.

MsGee · 18/06/2013 17:04

I am not so bad with adults coming over - its just one of DDs friend I give the one fish finger to. She has a proper school lunch so is never hungry when she comes over and I got a bit sick of cooking massive meals to bin.

Normally I do a mix of whatever crap they fancy from the freezer. Sometimes I give them 'everything at once tea'.

Adults get unlimited takeway and wine unless I have a lot of time to cook!

Mind you, when I was younger I did serve some horrible meals to people. Big, but horrible.

SixPack - see I think she was stingy on the wine - just five bottles Grin

I notice wine stinginess at other people's houses. Blush

I once went to a dinner party where the sup was sevred in gl;ass fruit bowls
Confused

Owllady · 18/06/2013 17:07

soup Blush

SixPackWellies · 18/06/2013 17:07

Oh I notice wine stinginess too.... for sure!

Nicolaeus · 18/06/2013 17:08

I remember going to friends one evening.

"Nibbles" was a small packet of peanuts

"Dinner" was meat, veg and potatoes. Except the quantities for 4 adults were what we would have done for DH and me...plus half the potatoes fell on the floor so were binned.

"Dessert" was a very nice, but very small fruit tart.

We were starving on the way home.

When we have guests I always overcook, to the point of having nibbles, starter, main and 2 choices of dessert. There are always leftovers, but never the same amount depending on the guests so I feel happy that everyone ate their fill.

Owllady · 18/06/2013 17:10

did you stop for a kebab nicolaeus?

Nicolaeus · 18/06/2013 17:15

Oh and no wine because she was pregnant Hmm

Nicolaeus · 18/06/2013 17:17

lol

we were tempted but it was gone midnight and we were knackered

MumnGran · 18/06/2013 17:18

My need to overfeed people is legendary in the family...... and I still don't understand why it has made me the object of near hysterical laughter among my children and their partners.
We have a roast lunch at 1 ... and at about 3.30 I start asking who would like tea & cake.
Cue, giggles, and "those" smiles.
And 6.30'ish is supper-time ...isn't it?...if not eating a dinner in the evening? cue - louder laughter, and some faint groaning.
WTF

melika · 18/06/2013 17:46

That's it, wedges for dinner then?!?

WilsonFrickett · 18/06/2013 18:21

Horry I have cut and pasted your quote about DS into my MN spreadsheet of good cheer. I have a terribly fussy DS and DH and I eat anything going. I'm happy yours is now tsking at the samphire shortage. (You can usually get it at the fishmongers.)

MsGee · 18/06/2013 18:48

Dinner 'cooking'. DH terrified by the prospect of billions of potato wedges.

Final count (and perhaps a pic) to be updated soon.

ClaraOswald · 18/06/2013 18:58

He can snack on the remaining with ketchup through the evening

MsGee · 18/06/2013 19:01

Eleven! He is determined to eat them all. He is struggling though I can tell Grin

OP posts:
Gruntfuttock · 18/06/2013 19:05

Why wouldn't you just give him the five he asked for? Why insist on either too few or too many? Surely a grown man is entitled to that. You appear to be treating him like a small child, I doubt you'd stand for it if he treated you in the same way.
