It's three dots only...not as many as you want to put.

Please people, use the point of ellipsis correctly! I can't stand all these extra dots.

It's enough to drive you dotty.......

Eilidhbelle · 17/06/2013 23:23

Yep, YANBU. I hate more than one exclamation mark, it drives me up the pole.

steppemum · 17/06/2013 23:24

well.......
I quite like them!!!!!!!!!!!

candyandyoga · 17/06/2013 23:24

Why don't people use grammar properly? Do they want to appear thick?!

Foosyerdoos · 17/06/2013 23:25

!?

ThisReallyIsNotSPNopeNotAtAll · 17/06/2013 23:26

I know right, they is well thick....

Grammar is proper like well important init. Some peeps just don't get it!!!!!

apostropheuse · 17/06/2013 23:27

I really think you should have typed "I can't stand all those extra dots.

Buzzardbird · 17/06/2013 23:28

You're forgetting the people that use commas instead of full stops...

lottiegarbanzo · 17/06/2013 23:29

Punctuation ain't grammar. I'm always amazed at people who seem to care, who blithely confuse the two.

We were not taught about the ellipsis at school. I was very happy when I discovered it had a name.

candyandyoga · 17/06/2013 23:29

'These' is actually fine too actually.

OP posts:
TrinityRhino · 17/06/2013 23:29

those not these and some people don't realise what they are doing is incorrect

I get infuriated about certain grammar hiccups but I probably do other things wrong

I also can't stand pin number but probably say things that make other people stabby

candyandyoga · 17/06/2013 23:30

You're right, I should have said grammar AND punctuation!

Yes - people who use commas instead do come across as extra thick... ;-)

OP posts:
TrinityRhino · 17/06/2013 23:30

see I stand corrected

ThisReallyIsNotSPNopeNotAtAll · 17/06/2013 23:32

candyandyoga · 17/06/2013 23:32

candyandyoga · 17/06/2013 23:33

lottiegarbanzo · 17/06/2013 23:35

JacqueslePeacock · 17/06/2013 23:35

!

steppemum · 17/06/2013 23:35

really, life is too short.

Formal writing, fine, be correct.

But in contexts like this, people use punctuation to express themselves, and often deliberately over/under use punctuation to add colour to their writing.

Who are you to say they shouldn't?

reelingintheyears · 17/06/2013 23:36

You are quite right,i will not do it again........................i sit corrected....
