Okay, I'm officially taking over this thread as the owner doesn't seem to want it.

I sometimes have wanted to do this when I have no clue about a contentious subject and would like to hear the opposing views. But I don't want to referee or get drawn into a bunfight or get accused of goading, which does seem to happen if the OP doesn't state her position.

Fortunately the things I post about are never controversial or frankly particularly interesting so they drop off the board by the time I remember them...
