to think that companies should not suddenly start using a name & address not used for 10 years+

My DM received two letters for me within the space of a few days to her address (which I've not lived at for over 10 years) and to my old name (now married and changed name over 10 years ago).

I am registered with the mail preference service for that name and address. I think this is disgusting. What if I had died and my DM had received those letters. Sad

The companies involved are:

direct line car insurance and

churchill car insurance

Am going to email them to complain now but am sure I am going to get fobbed off...

AIBU? And has anyone else had this happen to them?

Both of them are owned by the RBS bank. You might be able to complain to them?

Here is the email address of the CEO of Direct Line group which includes Direct Line & Churchill. Go straight to the top is always my motto!

Right - I did get a quick response from the "Executive Complaints Team" or some such.

The answer was that in 1997 Angry YES FOLKS SIXTEEN YEARS AGO I had obtained a Direct Line home insurance quote (I guess for my rented accommodation before I moved in using parents address as current address). I've not been getting any mail to my parents from Direct Line in the intervening SIXTEEN years.

Under fierce cross examination the bloke on the phone said "something may have happened with the databases when Direct Line divested from RBS...".

They've assured me I won't get any more mail blah blah but really I think this is not on.

Whilst waiting for a reply I posted it all off the the Mail Preference Service complaints but I have a feeling that they will say that as I didn't opt out then there is nothing they can do?Hmm

Maybe I should have reported myself the the Mail Preference Service as being "dead" Shock.

Does have any ideas where I could take this to try to shame Direct Line a shed a light on dodgy database practices?
