Oh god.

Dd, my little wonderful angel, is nine. She is beautiful and funny and bright.

She's also one of the most disgusting critters I've ever met. She's a picker, nose, teeth, feet, you name it. She jitters and jiggles and taps and sniffs and whistles and all sorts of habits and tics.

She has woken up today with a new habit. She is breathing. Hard. Out of her nose. Like a sniff but backwards.

It's making me want to throw up. I have spoken to her, I have shouted at her, I have sent her out of the room. She can't seem to help it. She keeps doing it and then looking at me and saying sorry.

I might have to send her to her room forever because I can't bear it. Help me. How can I break her of it?

If this becomes a permanent tic I may have to move out.

I have misophonia aka intolerant bastard syndromeand I can't bear it.

I don't know - but if you find the answer please, please, PLEASE let me know. 10 yr old DS does this too.

It drives me up the wall...

mrsjay · 15/06/2013 10:19

DehydratingManiac · 15/06/2013 10:20

Clothes peg on her nose?

cfc · 15/06/2013 10:21

Guys, you can't do this to me (us?).

I'm stumbling my way through the shit and puke filled days of their infanthood in the knowledge that soon, they'll be able to manage their own crap - literally.

Now I hear this continues well into the late singles?

I'm aghast.

When will it end, sweet Lord, when will the grossness end?

DehydratingManiac · 15/06/2013 10:22

Sorry, no help am I? Not bunged up at all?

blameitontheboogies · 15/06/2013 10:22

Are they actual tics?

EleanorHandbasket · 15/06/2013 10:24

I don't know. I've always called them tics because she just seems to do them without being aware if it. She used to do a cough thing that was similar, that went on for months.

Bleeee

mrsjay · 15/06/2013 10:25

she sounds really fidgety how is she at just sitting?

EleanorHandbasket · 15/06/2013 10:26

She has ants in her pants. She is never still. Not even when she sleeps, she thrashes and shouts and whistles and snores.

OP posts:
lessemin · 15/06/2013 10:33

I would take her to an ENT doctor.

EleanorHandbasket · 15/06/2013 10:35

There's nothing wrong with her in that respect. She's just a fidgety noisemaker.

OP posts:
mrsjay · 15/06/2013 10:35

sounds like she cant switch off it sounds exhausting for her and you dh is like this he never just sits drives me insane

lessemin · 15/06/2013 10:44

My DD had many different tics when she was younger she asked us never to mention them because it made her worse.

She just couldn't help it Sad

itsonlyapapermoon · 15/06/2013 10:48

My 7 year old is a bit like this. It's worse if he is anxious about something and ten times worse if hes had any ford with artificial colours or flavours/preservatives in it. He too seems unaware that he does these things (rocking, tapping, making stupid noises, clapping etc) until we point it out. It's not a reaction to some sort of underlying anxiety is it?

monicalewinski · 15/06/2013 11:22

My 11 year old is like this - CAN'T sit still or not make a noise of some description. He is annoying and it drives me insane!

tulipflowers · 15/06/2013 11:36

Dd is 17, and she stills sniffs all day long, says she can't blow her nose, it drives me insane Confused

ecclesvet · 15/06/2013 11:36

I know misophonia topics are generally treated quite light-heartedly here, but frankly shouting at and sending your child away for breathing heavily is emotional abuse.

Tee2072 · 15/06/2013 11:39

Yes. It's emotional abuse. Call SS immediately. Hmm

Must be nice to be perfect eccles. Do share how you manage it.

Hassled · 15/06/2013 11:40

You need to convince yourself that every time you hear that noise you're hearing something else, something nice. The sound of church bells? The sound of a cat purring?

dopeysheep · 15/06/2013 11:41

Meditation? Yoga? A soundproof room?

Follyfoot · 15/06/2013 11:41

Understand completely about the picking, but please dont shout at her for the tics - maybe she really cant help it Sad

Sorry to go all serious on you (backstory involving tics).

EleanorHandbasket · 15/06/2013 11:42

She's not breathing heavily. She's sniffing, but then blowing out of her nose. Like blowing her nose into the air.

It's disgusting. Worse than sniffing because she is spreading germs. So yes, I am shouting at her and sending her out of the room every time.

OP posts:
EleanorHandbasket · 15/06/2013 11:43

I try really really hard to tolerate the other stuff and mostly succeed. I promise.

But this is just gross. I need to stop her.
