Oh god.

Dd, my little wonderful angel, is nine. She is beautiful and funny and bright.

She's also one of the most disgusting critters I've ever met. She's a picker, nose, teeth, feet, you name it. She jitters and jiggles and taps and sniffs and whistles and all sorts of habits and tics.

She has woken up today with a new habit. She is breathing. Hard. Out of her nose. Like a sniff but backwards.

It's making me want to throw up. I have spoken to her, I have shouted at her, I have sent her out of the room. She can't seem to help it. She keeps doing it and then looking at me and saying sorry.

I might have to send her to her room forever because I can't bear it. Help me. How can I break her of it?

My son did this for a while. Very very annoying. I tell myself it will pass, and it does, then he moves on to something else. Then it was actual sniffing in, then a cough, now he's doing an eye thing.

Waiting to see what he does next week!

There's no point in trying to get him to stop, instead I have to train myself not to notice.

I've had to get over sniffing anyway, being a teacher - if I got annoyed with sniffing I'd spend all day getting cross.

I know this is an old thread, but wanted to chip in. My son (nearly 5) has just started the reverse sniffing thing. It's really frustrating to sit next to him but I manage to bite my tongue. It's like a mild sniff, followed by a blowing out through his nose and general heavy breathing. It's mainly when he's sitting watching TV or bored. He was blinking a lot which I found tough, that only stopped last week....the day the sniffing started. And so it continues..... x
