Oh bugger! Baby DS has just started to fall asleep on his own in his cot. He's 11 months. It's taken a long time to get here...

But I've got used to sitting by his cot and reading now! WIBU to sit here in peace for another hour while DH makes dinner?

Not at all, what he doesn't know....

HeadFairy · 13/06/2013 19:12

NotSoNervous · 13/06/2013 19:13

YANBU make the most of it Grin

Judyandherdreamofhorses · 13/06/2013 19:14

To be fair, I will be up half the night with said baby, and have to do the weekend on my own with both of them.

Unfortunately, I can't demand he bring me a drink...

Shh! Don't tell him. Just enjoy your book and the peace.

OHforDUCKScake · 13/06/2013 19:15

Hell yeah!! I stay horizontal MNing reading an intellectual book long after the baby has unlatched and fallen asleep. Grin

thebody · 13/06/2013 19:16

Go get a drink of wine but look harassed and say how hard he is to settle.

Then enjoy it in peace OR put your head down and have a kip OR keep on mumsnetting.

RenterNomad · 13/06/2013 20:16

Or go to the loo! Better reading light, and fewer blushes if you're caught!

Themobstersknife · 13/06/2013 20:19

Love it! Sometimes I have a lovely little nap whilst pretending to settle DD1, whilst she snores next to me.

MamaChubbyLegs · 13/06/2013 20:31

YANBU! I do it all the time! If I go downstairs too early, DP thinks Im going to do the washing up Grin

You deserve your chill time Wink

Tweasels · 13/06/2013 20:33

I do it every night, it's often the only time I get alone.

DeskPlanner · 13/06/2013 21:16

Oh, I always do this. Grin

HollyBerryBush · 13/06/2013 21:19

I can just imagine the reverse thread if a male Dp had the knack of settling a baby - the demands for 50% bog brushing would be out in force.

Judyandherdreamofhorses · 13/06/2013 21:29

Oh it's no 'knack', Holly. It's 11 months of being the only one to ever attempt settle the child.

But this isn't a DH bashing thread.

And dinner was delicious.

I don't understand how we got from lighthearted thread to the bog brushing demands Confused

yanbu op - enjoy the peace :-)

BabylonReturns · 13/06/2013 21:59

I feel your pain!! Ds is 14 months and only started to self settle in cot in the last couple of weeks.
I'm still BFing him, but last thing at night he has a bottle of cows milk and settles really well on his own, but I do miss the time up there MNing by myself!!! :)

Pontouf · 13/06/2013 22:00

Totally reasonable, I think you have to snatch the bits of you time whenever you can. I decided that as my DH gets a lunch break at work when he can do whatever he wants and I am at home eating my lunch while trying to breastfeed an 8 week old and nagging my 2.7yo to eat his veg then I am entitled to steal half an hour here and there by doing stuff like that.

I have also persuaded DH that he is the king of burping babies so in the evenings when I have fed DD I hand her over to him to pat/back rub/ generally mess about with while I go back to MNing in comfort. He feels useful and smug when she burps and I am unburdened. Marvellous!

PullyWoolOver · 13/06/2013 22:04

Hope you enjoyed your peace Judy Grin

Completely random, but your NN is my absolute favourite song ever - just had to say...

Trapper · 13/06/2013 22:24

Pontouf - my wife used to do that to me! I honestly believed I was an amazing burp-whisperer...

Trapper · 13/06/2013 22:29

And no, you are not being unreasonable. Enjoy!

honeytea · 13/06/2013 22:36

Yanbu, at least you baby is in bed. I pretend bf 6 month old ds, when he falls asleep I keep his on my breast, dp is non the wiser. I too do the night wake ups so I think it's fair.
