and do nothing? No looking at dishes or making beds or any of that. I just get to sit here until she decides.to wake I wake her.

How sad that I see this as a luxury Grin

I used to time my ds's nap to be in the library, so I'd have to sit and read whilst he slept Grin

Make sure you don't end up subsisting on Goldfish crackers and water from a sippy cup like my friend had to. Plan ahead and have lovely drinks and snacks in the car.

MortifiedAdams · 10/06/2013 15:12

I made sure the phone was fully charged and id peed beforehand. Been to the pub for lunch so am too stuffed for snacks!

You can get an app which makes your phone a baby monitor. I never used it but it seems designed for this situation.

TheReverseStitch · 10/06/2013 16:25

I used to do that, from the car I used to be able to get on our house WIFI so I would sit with my phone for some quality MNetting Grin I really miss that actually and agree it felt like a total luxury.

newyearnewattitude · 10/06/2013 22:29

I did that this weekend managed to watch half of django unchained on Sat and Psycho bitches yesterday, Sat in car On drive watching on my Xperia with headphones and a coffee that ds(13) brought out to me! Bliss...

Tommy · 10/06/2013 22:32

I used to do this when my DSs were babies. I got to the point where I would bring my newspare and make a packed lunch for myself, drove until they fell asleep (between music and NCT group!), then park up. I got to the point where I looked forward to my Wednesday "me time" Smile

Oh, I lost count of pub/supermarket/store/layby carparks DD napped in whilst I either napped alongside her or read my book - no smartphones in those days. I just made sure I always had a book in the car. It was great - meant we could do a morning activity, give her her lunch, drive off towards the afternoon venue and she would fall asleep on the way.

If we were coming home, we have a garage with an electric door, so I would just drive into the garage and leave her in the car.

I miss those days - never have time to do anything by the time I finish work and then have to get to school in time for pickup.

rubyflipper · 10/06/2013 22:55

I did this when DS was a baby. I used to drive to McDonalds drive-in, order a coffee then drink it and read a book while DS had his nap Grin

springtide · 10/06/2013 23:42

My sons were 16 months apart and in the early days when they were both difficult sleepers frequently returned home from a toddler morning or swimming with them both asleep in their seats. I often put my seat back and slept too on the drive - much to the amusement of our neighbours!

MidniteScribbler · 11/06/2013 00:18

Absolute bliss. I live on property, so park the car in front of the verandah, and sit with a book. My favourite part of the day.

Startail · 11/06/2013 00:24

I used to arrange for DD to nap in the car comming back from swimming. This allowed for a visit to the truckers layby and a bacon and mushroom butty, while she slept.

McNewPants2013 · 11/06/2013 00:26

Wishes my DC would have naps, sounds like a small piece of heaven

raisah · 11/06/2013 01:48

I do it and I get my dp to bring out a nice cup if coffee with chocolate biscuits. I browse on the web, read a book or actually grab 40 winks myself while dd naps. We have a driveway & my neighbours are used to seeing me having a cuppa in the car!

Enfyshedd · 11/06/2013 04:58

Since a Costa Coffee shop opened in my town (just after I finished ML dammit!) and became one of the few places open on a Sunday in my town, I have been guilty of taking DD for a walk into town when it's nearing nap time when DP and/or the DSSs have been getting on my wick so when DD drops off, I can go and have a sit down with my book, a drink and a cake for a nice chill out.

Pity I can't drive...
