To think beauty pageants for small girls are just wrong?

I caught a bit of Toddlers and Tiaras on telly. Some of these girls are just four years old and being put in make up, using false eyelashes and false tan. They look so 'doll' like and far too grown up. I know some young girls like to dress up but this is too extreme. Surely they must be targets for perverts.

Absolutely vile, and very sad that parents think it is a good idea.

Tallulahmae · 06/06/2013 16:46

I agree, it doesn't sit well with me, it isn't a good lesson for anyone and must attract some perverts as they are parading little children around made up and dressed up in an adult manner - insinuating sexuality - not okay in my book

squeakytoy · 06/06/2013 16:51

can I just point out, paedophiles are attracted to children.. making a child look like an adult is not going to make a blind bit of difference..

D0GWithAYoni · 06/06/2013 16:54

Hmm squeaky I'm not sure that sexualising helps tbh.

FobblyWoof · 06/06/2013 16:55

I don't think it makes them look like adults squeakytoy , I think it sexualises them, which would not deter paedophiles in the slightest.

Morgause · 06/06/2013 16:55

Awful.

squeakytoy · 06/06/2013 16:55

I would disagree. Paedophiles target pre-pubescent children. Who look like children. That is the "attraction".

blueemerald · 06/06/2013 16:59

I watched a lot of episodes of T&T and what you quickly realise is that there are rarely more than 50 people there (most of the clapping and cheering is fake). I suspect because they control who is allowed in very tightly.

Heartbrokenmum73 · 06/06/2013 17:14

I agree it's horrible, horrible, horrible and mostly for the benefit of the ex-beauty queen/wannabe beauty queen mothers, but there will inevitably be people along soon whose daughter's take part in these kind of things and they will be telling you that you're wrong.

rubiesandpearls · 06/06/2013 17:14

It seems to give the children a lot of confidence, perhaps a bit too much Hmm and I don't think all the bitching promotes anything healthy at all! However, I second blueemerald they don't just let anyone in.

Heartbrokenmum73 · 06/06/2013 17:15

And wtaf is the deal with Honey Boo Boo and her bizarre family?

C999875 · 06/06/2013 18:15

Completley agree with you they are wrong. very wrong! You wont get an argument fro me. Children need their sense of wonder an innocence for as long as they can. Also it so obvious on these beauty peageants that some of the children do not want to be there. It is their parent/s pushing them. For the love of God why can't they just let children be children! xx

xylem8 · 06/06/2013 18:20

who is honey boobooi

cardibach · 06/06/2013 18:39

Actually, I quite like Honey Boo Boo and her family Blush
They all seem to quite happy (if a bit redneck)and I think Honey actually enjoys the pageants, which is better than those poor kids who are clearly being pushed into it by ultra competitive mothers.
YANBU about the concept of pageants for young girls.
