I went for a pretty normal appointment (just a blood pressure check).

As I was getting ready to go she said "you have deep sadness in your eyes" that was it I think I just said "uh...ok" and walked out.

This was a while ago but I mean I keep looking in a mirror to see my horrific looking eyes.

This doctor is just plain odd right? It's a strange thing to and it's a very unusual thing to say?.

I think you can...

But in circumstances that cause deep sadness. I have very emotional eyes, people can always tell with I'm sad and ask about it.

Your doctor was an odd ball, though.

BrokenBanana · 03/06/2013 19:36

I think you can. You're doctor sounds a bit of a funny onion though. Was she trying to reach out to you maybe?

havingamadmoment · 03/06/2013 19:38

I don't think I have any terrible deep sadness hidden either Not that I aware of anyway!. No more than any other person.

Perhaps she was trying to reach out to me although I can't really imagine why Confused

I think you can.

I would be glad to have an attentive doctor.

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee · 03/06/2013 19:44

Yes, you can.

But that was a strange thing for a Dr to say.

Yup I agree you can. We're you concerned about anything at the time? Even just what to eat for tea? Maybe you just looked troubled!

Wishiwasanheiress · 03/06/2013 19:47

Damn iPhone why does it always change were to we're ?!?

ItsallisnowaFeegle · 03/06/2013 19:50

I think you can definitely tell if someone close to you is sad, by the look in their eyes, but maybe not so much someone you aren't used to looking at.

havingamadmoment · 03/06/2013 19:55

Wish I don't think I was particularly sad about anything at the time, maybe a little stressed but not sad if you see what I mean. I did wonder if there was something in my file that could have made her say that but it would seem odd to go trawling through to find things like that. I have to say I was hoping you would say you can't because now I'm going to have to wear sunglasses.

It does explain why people are generally so kind and friendly with me when I see the same people cold and indifferent to others!.they must think in the verge of a breakdown Shock.

Yes you can. Some people speak with their eyes, I do. You can tell when i'm sick, sad, happy, unimpressed etc. The colour changes to bright green when i'm angry aswell Grin. Dr shouldn't really have said it though.

SybilRamkin · 03/06/2013 19:59

Some people just have sad or grumpy looking faces! I know a lovely man who looks like his beloved pet died, his house fell down and he lost a fortune all at the same time, but is actually a cheerful and happy person!

You can tell if someone's upset sometimes from their facial expressions, but I certainly don't believe that you can see a 'deep' sadness in someone's eyes.

YANBU, and the doc is a fruitcake!

londonlogin · 03/06/2013 20:07

My Spaniel often has a deep sadness in her eyes, OP has your favourite chew toy recently lost it's squeak?

WMittens · 03/06/2013 20:15

People often exhibit behaviours that manifest unconsciously, that they've usually had since childhood. It could be twisting your hair round your finger, scratching your nose, lip trembling, shrugging shoulders, looking at the floor - they echo how a person reacted to events and emotions in childhood.

Someone who often deals in these matters or has practiced spotting them would notice them happening, but I think the doctor would need to know you well enough to link "feeling sad" with "eyes looking a particular way".

OctopusPete8 · 03/06/2013 20:26

I think some people have more expressive faces than others, you can see every emotion etched over my face, I don't like it though I wish I had more of a poker face.

HollyBerryBush · 03/06/2013 20:27

Eyes are windows to the soul.

You can tell when someone has false emotions by their eyes.

Pigsmummy · 03/06/2013 20:40

I once was completely spooked by someone doing the same to me when I was trying to hide it. I think that you can tell a lot from looking at someone's eyes.
