about cars in our street

There is a 3 bedroom semi next door. They have a driveway big enough for 2 cars.

The people who stay there regularly (more than half the week) have six cars between them.

They've just bought a rally car which appears to have no engine and is now parked in their drive. So that's them up to 7 cars. And a work van very occasionally too.

AIBU to think that this is a little excessive?

If you've only got room on your drive for two cars, where are the other five going to go? There's only so much space on public roads and it is totally unreasonable for people to clog up all the parking spaces in a street so they can have their own way with hobbies. I'm sorry for other residents and their visitors who have to try and park in that street. If you want a hobby that needs a driveway for a car, get a house with a bigger driveway and let other people have a chance to park near their houses.

There's one in front of their house, one in front of ours, one in front of next door's and one across the road on the pavement. And one round the corner.

To be fair, there are 5 of them who stay there regularly. So it's only slightly more than one each.

It's not the money, it is the space.

Is it impacting on you? Have you got a drive? Are you inconvenienced in any way?

mummy1973 · 02/06/2013 21:37

If it is a public road anyone can park there.

MerryMarigold · 02/06/2013 21:42

This is my neighbour too. They have no drive, but have:

  • Large van
  • Chrysler 4 x 4
  • Vauxhall Astra
  • Classic Car
  • VW family car

Unsurprisingly, in a row of terraced houses there is no room for our ONE car as there is about enough space for 1.5 cars per house.

I don't say anything as it is a public road but I do find it a bit inconsiderate. At least your neighbours park some round the corner.

We own 5 vehicles (due to OH's business) and hire a yard to keep 3 of them in. It's only fair to our neighbours.

blonde, do you want to move nextdoor Wink?
