Tonight, she referred to a woman's body being found in 'suspicious circumstances but that the motivation had not been sexual.' She then made her joke which was: how awful it would be to be a murder victim but to not be considered attractive enough for anyone to think that the motivation might have been sexual. She ended by suggesting that the victim could have trimmed their pubic hair.

I found this beyond the pale but made evn worse by the fact that channel 4 chose to broadcast this on the day that a young woman has been found murdered.

No, I lovexmastime......that is an example of irony.

However, some jokes are so 'unfunny' that yes, they do need someone to say,'it was a joke!' Quite often, this is used as a get out of jail free card, as they seem to think the phrase 'it was a joke' gives them carte blanche to say anything and-even better-allows them to accuse any detractor of not having a sense of humour.

All very transparent but it allows them to make nasty little remarks about anything because it's funny or even better...ironic!

Grin @ Panzee

That has cheered me up, Panzee. Now there's irony: OP retells a joke that she thinks is 'beyond the pale'. You hadn't heard it before she told it to you, and you find it funny and it made you laugh

I love MN; I can't stop smiling.

I don't find her funny at all. I also think her comedy is really simple, I don't see any irony at all. I find her embarrassingly unfunny - really cringey! I'm not a Frankie Boyle fan, he's too beyond the pale for my taste but I can't see any comparison at all between him and Sarah Millican. I've never heard her be remotely shocking (only ever seen her on panel shows like qi), just boring, predictable and far from funny.

Most stand-up comedians push the boundaries. You see it mostly when you see them live; it's usually less so on TV. In general I think this is a good thing and wouldn't want them to have to tone it down. If you ban one tasteless routine you'd have to get rid of them all!

Agree Bowlersarm, it's like when Mary Whitehouse tried to get offensive TV and theatre shows banned and the audiences went up.
I'd rather have mediocre comics on the TV than some of the freak shows and let us sort out your sex life in a really intrusive way shows that many channels love. Not sure I'd want anything banned though unless I'm paying for it on the BBC as I can always just turn over if it's crap or offensive.

Not remotely funny, I was a bit WTF too when I heard it. I didn't like her swearing either didn't make her funny at all. Normally like her very much.

I missed it; but she seems to have a way with words that grabs audiences. Fills stadia and is one of the few top women stand ups.

she is very rude. But thats in fashion

boxershorts · 01/06/2013 12:20

Is it repeated on a minor channel?
