To think that the sensible way to eat a kiwi is to cut the top off and scoop the flesh out with a tea spoon?

My colleague, says no, they must be peeled.

Who's right?

(I know I am but thought I'd ask anyway)

I eat the peel Blush DD scoops the flesh out with a tea spoon. I have never peeled 1, it would never occur to me to do so.

MikeOxard · 31/05/2013 22:45

I eat it with the skin on too, like an apple. All the goodness is in the skin!

Amazinggg · 31/05/2013 22:50

They give me mouth blisters. So do tomatoes and dark chocolate but they're at least worth the pain.

roses2 · 31/05/2013 22:50

I eat a kiwi every day and have never heard of cut and scoop! Will have to try it out tomorrow

Auntlinny · 31/05/2013 22:53

You lot disgust me. They are protected birds you know.

whoopwhoopbib · 01/06/2013 05:30

When I was little my friend had two kiwis, one she peeled and ate, the other she left the skin on and was then sick afterwards. It may have been totally unrelated to the skin on kiwi but it's been enough to make me peel them ever since.

Auntlinny

But their accents are so annoying, all the vowels in the wrong place.

Now mangoes - who eats the skin on those?

MrsBigD · 01/06/2013 05:42

we have kiwi knoons or is it spive? Grin one end is obviously a spoon and the handle has a slightly serrated edge so you can cut the top off Smile

Vijac · 01/06/2013 05:47

Yes, I agree squoosh. I am amazing and slightly flabbergasted but may now need to try a kiwi with the skin on.

LotsaTuddles · 01/06/2013 06:00

At work I cut and scoop, at home I don't eat them as I'm a little bit allergic an they make my tongue scratchy and throat ache. (But they're just so damn yummy!!!!!!!)

And now I want one thank you!

TheRealFellatio · 01/06/2013 06:14

Your method is ok for a packed lunch but I wouldn't do it otherwise.

i had a friend once who made me a fruit salad and put chopped up, unpeeled kiwi in it. Confused

GoofyIsACow · 01/06/2013 06:40

I am so glad i am not the only skin eater!

MummaBubba123 · 01/06/2013 08:03

Cut n scoop only if quite soft

PeppaPigsMum · 01/06/2013 08:08

Cut into quarters then eat with the skin. I used to peel them, but saw someone eating with the skin on once and tried it. Much easier, and you don't seem to notice the roughness of the skin - I don't anyway Smile.

livingdownunder · 01/06/2013 08:50

they need shaving first if you're going to eat the skin.

complexnumber · 01/06/2013 09:01

does anyone else eat the skin on a pineapple?

Bowlersarm · 01/06/2013 09:04

Cut in half. Scoop out flesh with teaspoon.

Too fiddly and sticky to do it any other way.

ppeatfruit · 01/06/2013 09:09

The skin on a kiwifruit is like a mouse's skin Shock anyone fancy a whole mouse Shock!! complex pineapple skin is not edible either but it can be made into a drink there's a St.Delia recipe for it somewhere.

imaginethat · 01/06/2013 10:08

No you don't cut the top off, you cut in half and scoop from each half. From an expert.

Bloody 'ell Triumph he's lucky to be alive !!Shock

crossparsley · 01/06/2013 13:37

I eat them like apples too. The bit just next to the skin is lovely and sharp-tasting, suggesting that's where the most of the vitamin C is. Flesh without skin tastes a bit insipid to me these days.

ppeatfruit · 01/06/2013 17:00

But not hairy chokey skin surely? you wouldn't eat an artichoke choke would you? You could scrape the skin after eating the fruit couldn't you?
