To think that the sensible way to eat a kiwi is to cut the top off and scoop the flesh out with a tea spoon?

My colleague, says no, they must be peeled.

Who's right?

(I know I am but thought I'd ask anyway)

Fairyloo My mum did that and she was always always choking. Kiwis are covered in thousands of tiny hairs YUCK .I told her not to eat the skin and she's okay now! I put mine in a smoothie once and that was vile those little black pips don't taste good when they're ground!

ppeatfruit · 31/05/2013 15:52

YANBU that's the way to eat them as far as I'm concerned but they must 'give' gently when squeezed otherwise they're disgusting!

fuzzywuzzy · 31/05/2013 15:53

peeled and cut up

Naoko · 31/05/2013 16:03

Cut
Scoop
Develop mouth full of blisters
Remember why I don't eat kiwis
Give it 6 months
Repeat from beginning

PeterParkerSays · 31/05/2013 16:12

You mean you don't just bite into the kiwi, leaving just the stalky bit at the top and bottom (dead technical me!)?

All the vitamins are under skin and you lose them if you use a spoon or peel them.

squoosh · 31/05/2013 16:21

Yes......but......the skin is made of hairy sandpaper.

I eat the skin too like an apple.

Hashtagwhatever · 31/05/2013 17:05

You. Thats how i have always eaten kiwi

ReturnofSaturn · 31/05/2013 17:07

I eat the whole lot of them with the skins. The skin is not tough at all and tastes fine :)

flossy101 · 31/05/2013 17:07

I peel the skin off then cut into little circles

Geeklover · 31/05/2013 17:16

Skin eaters here too. Grin
I used to chop and scoop but when dd was much younger she started eating them whole so I did too.

squoosh · 31/05/2013 17:19

Every week I learn something new about humans.

This week I've learnt that a surprising amount of people eat kiwi skins.

Well, this 'skin eating' technique of kiwi consumption has come as a complete of a shock to me!

I'm going to try it next time I get a kiwi.

Wishiwasanheiress · 31/05/2013 17:43

Yup eat like an egg.

Or skinned & sliced.

MammaTJ · 31/05/2013 17:44

I was given some kiwi spoons. They are plastic, with a knife edge on one end and a spoon on the other. Clearly designed to cut and scoop.

Wishiwasanheiress · 31/05/2013 17:44

Skin eater? It's furry. The thought makes me want to vomit.

MrsMagpieCovetsShinyThings · 31/05/2013 17:46

I'm going to have to buy kiwis now in my shop tomorrow. I cut in half then scoop.

MichelleRooJnr · 31/05/2013 17:51

Peel.
Slice into thick slices.
Stick a lollypop stick or wee skewer into each slice (through the edge).
Dip in melted dark chocolate till covered.
Freeze (or at least chill).
Mmmmmunch.

ReturnofSaturn · 31/05/2013 18:24

For the people who say eating the skins would be weird and all furry etc. Just try it! You will probably be surprised, as was I the first time I tried eating the whole lot!

froggers1 · 31/05/2013 18:34

Defo use a splife. I used to live in NZ and thats how everyone eats them there.

BeeMom · 31/05/2013 18:39

Another shout from the "like an apple" camp.

I never had them as a child. When I was in the military, they were always in the fruit bowl in the mess (and a hot commodity). I grabbed one and ate it like everyone else ate them (since I had no idea what I was doing). Still eat them that way.

kiwigirl42 · 31/05/2013 18:45

for fucks sake, its a kiwifruit. A kiwi has a long beak and 2 legs.

BeeMom · 31/05/2013 18:47

so explain your name, kiwigirl42 - you must have quite the honker...

WoTmania · 31/05/2013 18:50

YANBU - cut and scoop like a dunky egg
