To think that the sensible way to eat a kiwi is to cut the top off and scoop the flesh out with a tea spoon?

My colleague, says no, they must be peeled.

Who's right?

(I know I am but thought I'd ask anyway)

You- they're too juicy and sticky to eat skinned!

YoniHuman · 31/05/2013 15:17

Yes, cut and scoop. Only peeled if they're going in a fruit salad/dessert.

Thumbtack · 31/05/2013 15:17

You need to gently squish them between your fingers before cutting the top off. Thus the flesh is easier to scoop out.

Cut and scoop, even my dc (8and6) know this

FirstStopCafe · 31/05/2013 15:18

Yes I eat them how you do. Really fancy one now

lynniep · 31/05/2013 15:20

Well, it depends on your situation surely.

If I'm at work, with a kiwi, and sitting at my desk for lunch, then I think I would use the spoon scoop method - less mess - neater all round.

If at home, with small child nagging for kiwi - I would peel and slice. He does damage with cutlery.

If eating other fruits in conjunction i.e. fruit salad - obviously peeling and slicing is the way to go as well.

FobblyWoof · 31/05/2013 15:21

Cut and scoop.

Though I peel them for my DD (16 months) for obvious reasons.

IShallWearMidnight · 31/05/2013 15:22

my Kiwi relatives taught us to cut and scoop, so presumably thats' the definitive method.

squoosh · 31/05/2013 15:22

Ooooh top tip Thumbtack!

smoothieooo · 31/05/2013 15:24

I used to cut off the top and supply a spoon for scoopage but now I am forced by the DC to peel and slice the fuckers! Last night I had to do this with 5 of them and it is jolly fiddly. I will get grapes next time Wink

EccentricElastic · 31/05/2013 15:27

smoothie is it easier to peel the grapes then?

MistyKnight · 31/05/2013 15:28

Neither method for me. Cut in half lengthwise and squeeze the skin gently. The kiwi flesh will pop out pleasingly without the need for a spoon!

HappyAsEyeAm · 31/05/2013 15:31

I only ever eat them at home, so I chop off the top and bottom. Then cut into quarters lengthways. Then peel each quarter and cut out and of the middle that is tough. And then chop the quarters in half. And then eat it with a fork. Both DSs love kiwis too, so I seem to be doing this three times a day at the moment! I will be converting us all to the scoop, I think.

sweetiepie1979 · 31/05/2013 15:31

I just eat it like an apple

BellaVita · 31/05/2013 15:33

I have them both ways.

squoosh · 31/05/2013 15:34

Including the ballsack like hairy skin sweetiepie?

You're tough!

The only way is with a spife. We were given them with free kiwis in Tokyo, when we happened upon a promotional fair.

AdoraBell · 31/05/2013 15:36

On holiday once I saw a man bite a hole in the skin and suck the flesh out. I usually peel and slice. Although I haven't had a kiwi worth eating in a looooong time. All the ones I see here are either unripe and bitter once they ripen or so over ripe I'd have to dodge the fruit flies to get at them.

Fairyloo · 31/05/2013 15:38

I eat the skin alwAys have done! Bit prickly but not the worst thing I've eaten!

MaxPepsi · 31/05/2013 15:38

Cut the top off like a boiled egg???

I cut mine in half then scoop.

However if someone wanted to peel and slice one for me I'd happily let them!

YouStayClassySanDiego · 31/05/2013 15:41

Kiwis are peeled in this house with a veg peeler,I've never eaten it with a spoon.Hmm

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 31/05/2013 15:46

I eat the skin too! I bite them like apples because I am coarse!

SixPackWellies · 31/05/2013 15:47

I cut into half lengthways, then half again and then eat it like an orange.
