As an aside, it also struck me as funny that while women seem to be encouraged at the moment to take on the tiresome task of trimming hair from nether regions, men are currently being let off the bother of shaving.

gibber, have you seen THESE?!

It's the one time where I've caved on the girly pink thing and went ooooh i need one Grin

bran, Patrick looks like he's jumped out of some swish gent's magazine editorial. I never watched that show but I'm considering it now.......

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 30/05/2013 23:30

Crisp well groomed beards are ok. goatees are nice. The current trend for a huge rambling fuzzy bush attached to your face isn't nice! Especially if you can't keep your lunch crumbs out of it!

GibberTheMonkey · 30/05/2013 23:30

I would prefer a cowboy with a beard Wink

I have three sons. How many do you think we can influence (my df, fil & dh are all bearded)

LittleMissLucy · 30/05/2013 23:32

I love a beardy man. Neat, clean-smelling beard mind, not a nicotine stained one with last night's dinner in it.

UhOhChongo · 30/05/2013 23:32

Perhaps it's such a given that clean shaven for men is preferable that the only people bothering to comment are the minority pro-bearders...Wink

LittleMissLucy · 30/05/2013 23:34

Who says we're a minority?

Souredstones · 30/05/2013 23:37

Urgh hate beards. Dh has a VERY square jawline and looks like a pirate when he has facial hair. Not a good look!

Give me a clean shaven man any day!

ifancyashandy · 30/05/2013 23:40

Ben Affleck in Argo. Would.
Ben Affleck in anything else. Wouldn't.

Rulesgirl · 30/05/2013 23:48

My DH has had a beard for about 10 years and its just so sexy. Not a full faced fluffy beard but a groomed close cut one and I love to kiss him and feel the roughness of it on my face. Its so ....male.

PosyNarker · 31/05/2013 00:16

I don't like and super-hairy (think Desparate Dan) DP fortunately agrees. We are not gimmers (early 30s) but I was at a wedding recently where all the youngish men were wearing facial hair with pride including some that was bum fluff to be frank

A couple of old friends did comment on the lovely hairy men. I was with DP...

That said, I always think they are lovelier clean shaven. My inner feminist suspects that might be sexist Confused

BadaBingBang · 31/05/2013 05:28

I think they can look great. A good looking young man with a beard reminds me of all the old photos of mean from the 19th century. But (and its a big but), I prefer my DH to be clean shaven, as I don't like to kiss men with beards.

ScumbagCollegeDropout · 31/05/2013 06:11

YABVU.
Beards are bloody brilliant. I love them Grin

Facial hair is a must for me in a bloke generally.

I am in awe when I watch Beard Wars.

RichManPoorManBeggarmanThief · 31/05/2013 06:15

I like beards but not unkempt ones or bum fluff- the close cut groomed type.

I think hairless men have had their day.

RichManPoorManBeggarmanThief · 31/05/2013 06:17

When I started work in 1996 for a professional services firm, guys had to get permission from a partner to grow a beard or moustache. Seriously. I dont think anyone got refused- it was just to stop people who couldnt be arsed to shave from pretending they were growing a beard

NotYouNaanBread · 31/05/2013 07:11

Nothing unkempt about this... Ricki Hall

DH's beard isn't quite as long, but give it another couple of months.

Any idea how to stop the skin underneath getting irritated and flakey though? DH's always does after six months or so.

moiner · 31/05/2013 07:19

YANBU Clean shaven all day long for me

bettycocker · 31/05/2013 07:53

YABU. I find beards really sexy.

ChunkyPickle · 31/05/2013 07:57

YABU - I couldn't care less (DP only shaves once a week) - I prefer soft whiskers to spiky evening re-growth any day.

Of course I don't buy into the requirement to shave any of my bits either. I might do if I'm wearing nice trousers cos I like the feeling, but I feel no obligation whatsoever - he's hairy, why shouldn't I be.

deliciousdevilwoman · 31/05/2013 08:02

Hate them!

Obsessive fear and hatred of beards is called pognophobia-yes, really.

My STBEX is now sporting a beard-I had a chance encounter with him some weeks back. Wouldn't have recognised him. It was grim-Catweasal eat your heart out!

Calabria · 31/05/2013 08:36

One of the girls as school (1 million years ago) was talking about beards and said that the dad of one of our classmates looked creepy because he had a beard. When I pointed out the my dad had a beard as well she said "He's a sailor, that's different" Confused

Dad hasn't been a sailor for nearly 40 years now and still has a beard Grin

I like them.

echt · 31/05/2013 08:52

The gigantic Ned Kelly beard has been gaining ground among some the younger groovy types for a couple of years in Australia (well, Melbourne).

Youtube The Beards and click on their "You should consider having sex with a bearded man." A great song, and DO watch the clip to the end.

As fas as I know all their songs relate to beards and yes, they all have beard.

meddie · 31/05/2013 08:57

Hate beards,
My dad always had a beard and developed 'The Whisker' which was one of his tortures for annoying him, involved being pinned down and whiskered in your face. That along with the 'foot of death' (his feet always stunk) and the 'tickle of doom', has gven me an aversion to feet and beards all my life

mrsjay · 31/05/2013 09:00

MY dh has a beard I dont mind it he was sporting a Hobo look sighfor a few weeks but he has trimmed it I really dont see it as a problem if they like it and are happy with it it is their face after all,

jamdonut · 31/05/2013 09:05

My DH has had a well maintained and trimmed beard for at least 10 years, and I have never seen him without a moustache in the 27 years I have known him!
