to not be able to articulate the intense dislike mixed up with pity and outrage I feel towards people who take photos of their bodies and post them on the internet?

I suppose the immediate response will be "You're just jealous" and, yes, of course I am jealous (in a minor way) of the young and slim and beautiful.

But it is SO VACUOUS!

Agreed?

oh gawd, those pictures when folk are in their bikini's and take a shot looking down their body and legs to the horizon. Blurrrgh. I would do it, but tbh I would look less beautiful body and more beached whale. And I mean that most sincerely folks

Sallystyle · 29/05/2013 22:35

My sister is 14 and she posts photos of herself every day in front of the same mirror. The pose is the same every day, the 'sexy' hair is the same every day. You look at one photo and you may as well have seen them all, the only difference is the clothes. I wonder why she has to post a photo every day with the same duck face and pose.

Then people reply telling her how she is beautiful and she replies saying she isn't, they all go on about how she is etc. The same shit every day.

I cringe.

I hope she grows out of it.

Mintyy · 29/05/2013 22:42

Yes, Samu, I mean that sort of nonsense. Only the people I am talking about are adults. And you would sincerely hope they had more important things to occupy their time. As well as, perhaps, taking a wee bit of responsibility for not encouraging body obsession in vulnerable people.

FunnysInLaJardin · 29/05/2013 22:45

oh yes, I have one or two of those on FB, I just think how insecure must you be tbh. And all those posts saying 'oh looking hot' and they go all coy. These women are 40+ ffs

WorraLiberty · 29/05/2013 22:48

As does HBB and Worra. They just like to be contrary.

Wtf was that arsey post for?

It was a genuine question actually. From your OP you didn't make it clear whether you were talking about people deliberately posing or playing on the beach.

FFS if I wanted to be contrary I can think of a 1000 different ways...and none of them involve asking a simple question for clarification on thread about FB.

Mintyy · 29/05/2013 23:10

Worra
Are you saying to me that you are unaware that some people (celebrities and ordinary people alike) use facebook and twitter as a platform to show off pictures of themselves posing in their scants/beach attire? Just for the purposes of saying "look at how fab I am"

?

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 29/05/2013 23:15

No. I was saying to you (or asking you) exactly this...

"Do you mean posing deliberately in a bikini so the focus is just them...rather than say them swimming/building sandcastles with their kids?"

Because if you read your thread title and OP, it's not clear.

But seriously, it's not a big deal and for the record (now I know what you're on about) I hate stupid 'selfies' too.

MalcolmTuckersMum · 29/05/2013 23:17

I can't think of anything worse than being obliged to be 'deliberately contrary' on a chat forum. It must be so tiring having to keep that up all the time. Do you really think people do that on purpose OP?

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 29/05/2013 23:19

I knew what you meant OP.

Selfies. Don't get it myself.

I don't get the whole instagram thing. Technically I mean. So the pictures disappear (or is that a different thing not instagram) but surely it doesn't stop them being circulated or a screen shot being taken?

Apart from vacuous, it's just so risky.

WilsonFrickett · 29/05/2013 23:20

If you don't have anyone on your Facebook who actually does this, why do you care?

WorraLiberty · 29/05/2013 23:22

MalcomTuckersMum I've seen the DNA results and you fucking aint!!

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 29/05/2013 23:22

Facebook is just for mums and PR people.

young people don't go there anymore.

Cherriesarelovely · 29/05/2013 23:23

I completely agree with you Op. I find it pathetic and irritating unless they are teenagers.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 29/05/2013 23:24

Mary

Where do they go?

Mintyy · 29/05/2013 23:24

I didn't strictly mean pictures of people posing in their bikinis, no.

I mean "selfies", taken in underwear, gym gear, swimwear, nightwear taken to purely show off the shape of one's body.

OP posts:
MaryMotherOfCheeses · 29/05/2013 23:25

I dunno, I'm not young.

But Fb is so last year, apparently.

hopkinette · 29/05/2013 23:26

I actually love it when people post selfies because they just look like utter cunts, and that makes me happy. What makes me even happier is when NO ONE replies "omg ur beautiful xxxx" because you KNOW that the only reason they posted it in the first place was to get validation. The thought of them sitting there hitting F5 over and over, desperate for internet approval, makes me happy.

MalcolmTuckersMum · 29/05/2013 23:27

@ worra

You're only saying that to be contrary.

Mintyy · 29/05/2013 23:27

Wilson
I care because I have a 12 year old dd who I would love to shield from the whole body obsessive thing going on. And not just my dd, I'd like all young girls (and indeed boys, for that matter) not to be confronted with this.

OP posts:
MaryMotherOfCheeses · 29/05/2013 23:27

link again in a hopefully coherent manner doh!

MalcolmTuckersMum · 29/05/2013 23:28

I think I agree with hopkinette. Trouble is there usually IS some hunning fuckwit poised and ready to post just that.

WorraLiberty · 29/05/2013 23:31

On the plus side

All the self shots make me feel as though I have the cleanest bathroom on Facebook...even when it's a fucking mess.

usualsuspect · 29/05/2013 23:35

Hello SEA Grin

usualsuspect · 29/05/2013 23:38

Tumblr is the place to be

No self respecting teenager uses FB anymore.
