to not be able to articulate the intense dislike mixed up with pity and outrage I feel towards people who take photos of their bodies and post them on the internet?

I suppose the immediate response will be "You're just jealous" and, yes, of course I am jealous (in a minor way) of the young and slim and beautiful.

But it is SO VACUOUS!

Agreed?

I don't understand your OP at all.

Can you expand it?

southeastastra · 29/05/2013 21:10

where on the internet do they post them? Grin

fabergeegg · 29/05/2013 21:11

Think you've done a pretty good job :)

BoundandRebound · 29/05/2013 21:12

Agree

Completely

Empty fame

Empty heads

Vacuous lives

harrietlichman · 29/05/2013 21:13

Depends where. I am on My Fitness Pal and people do post pics of their bodies on there - but they are showing how much weight they have lost/fitter they have got etc and it is generally accepted that it's ok to do it. If anyone did it on Facebook, for example, I would think they were a bit of an idiot, but have never seen anyone do it on there. Or on MN!

HollyBerryBush · 29/05/2013 21:17

I think I'm a parallel universe here - surely if you are an empowered woman, albeit fit, beautiful and so forth, it is your right to slap your picture up on the internet?

Beauty is in the eye of beholder - plenty of fat/feeder sites for the other end of the market to gawk at.

But of course, as ever, it is what you are comfortable with - I doubt the self conscious would be doing body image photos.

Mintyy · 29/05/2013 21:42

You know exactly what I'm talking about HollyBerryBush.

Sea (hello!!) on Twitter etc.

OP posts:
SybilRamkin · 29/05/2013 21:45

Well, most people would look at the photos and laugh at how vain and full of themselves the people who post them are - outrage might be a little unreasonable, but pity is certainly justified.

Holly - nothing 'empowered' about making oneself look ridiculous.

No I don't know what you are talking about - link to a site please

southeastastra · 29/05/2013 21:53

hello minty!

SupermanEatsKryptonite · 29/05/2013 21:56

Are you talking about Chloe Madley perchance? Weird photo, I very much agree with your op.

cees · 29/05/2013 21:58

My sister has a pouty side profile, up my own arse picture of herself up on facebook, it's beyond pathetic.

LittleMissLucy · 29/05/2013 21:59

YANBU and I agree completely.
I feel sorry for them, they're as self-obsessed as a 13 yr old and as interesting as a rock.

TheCrackFox · 29/05/2013 22:03

YANBU

Anyone over the age of 18 should have bloody grown out of being a self absorbed tosser.

WorraLiberty · 29/05/2013 22:03

I don't think I know anyone who does this

Do you mean posing deliberately in a bikini so the focus is just them...rather than say them swimming/building sandcastles with their kids?

CheckpointCharlie · 29/05/2013 22:08

I agree if you are talking about certain 'celebrities' I totally agree. I also hate women in bikinis at sporting events, am watching UFC at the moment and every round a woman trots round the edge doing pouty kisses. I HATE IT!

WhiteBirdBlueSky · 29/05/2013 22:09

Nobody who I'm 'friends' with on Facebook does this. Why are you friends with these people?

MalcolmTuckersMum · 29/05/2013 22:11

I'll join Holly in not having a scooby what you're on about..........would you care to expand or is this just a thread for saying "hello" to friends from another place?

K8Middleton · 29/05/2013 22:12

I have a FB friend who posts loads of pictures of herself. She also refers to the "glory days of my childhood". She is 22 Hmm Grin

Really anyone who posts pics of themself without a specific purpose other than "look at meeeeee!" is a bit strange. Yanbu

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 29/05/2013 22:15

I don't have anything to do with FB. The more I hear the more put off I get.

MalcolmTuckersMum · 29/05/2013 22:20

Is it just their bodies or is it people who post pictures of themselves pouting in a 'Am I not utterly gorgeous' (errrrrrr, no!) way? Because if it's that - I get it. Never yet seen anyone look as divine as they clearly think they do.

Sallystyle · 29/05/2013 22:22

I have teens who do this on fb but no adults.

The teens annoy me a bit but I mostly cringe for them then thank the stars that fb wasn't around when I was a teen.

Mintyy · 29/05/2013 22:30

I believe the term is "selfies".

Malcolm, I only know SouthEastAstra from Mumsnet - she has been gorn for a long time.

I don't have anyone on my facebook who does this, I just know it goes on.

As does HBB and Worra. They just like to be contrary.
