To find that 'strikethrough what you really wanted to say' thing annoying?

Every thread on mumsnet there's some cleverdick person who writes their post in this so called funny way with the irritating things they were 'going' to say crossed out in the middle of their post.

It makes reading things take twice as longer just so someone can be a smartarse so I'm a bit over it. I found it funny the first five times, now I'm just finding it annoying. Grin

No, lequeen uses italics like a pro.

I never use the underline

AlexReidsLonelyBraincell · 27/05/2013 16:38

I don't know why but I always read crepey wee brackets.
My brain knows its not that, maybe I've been looking in the mirror to much.

valiumredhead · 27/05/2013 16:40

Strikeout is my favourite feature of MN so eff off Wink

ItsallisnowaFeegle · 27/05/2013 16:40

YABU and a killer of my joy OP

digerd · 27/05/2013 16:41

I have always found that amusing as implies what they are really thinking, but are too polite to say it , but actually have Grin

Charliefox · 27/05/2013 16:44

No shit Sherlock

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 27/05/2013 16:45

I use italics all the time. And underscore, and bold and CWB and strikeout. I think it's because I gesticulate so much IRL that I desperately need added weaponry when typing.

Strikeout is a comedic technique amongst many, and like every other it does not guarantee of hilarity unless well-used.

How do you strike through a whole sentence please and thank you?

Thumbwitch · 27/05/2013 16:55

just put the at the beginning and end of the section you wish to strikethrough, instead of around each word, with no gaps between the and the words to which they are adjacent. Grin

MyThumbsHaveGoneWeird · 27/05/2013 17:23

I love the strikethrough. I am frequently very frustrated that I can't do it on gmail. Tell me how to do it on gmail someone? Pleeeeeease?

Oldraver · 27/05/2013 17:26

No its brilliant

Dontbugmemalone · 27/05/2013 17:31

Oh dear. I really love this feature and wish other websites used it to. It's how my brain works. I won't insult you though :)

Mintyy · 27/05/2013 17:32

I love it, but its terribly over-used.

Less is more, people!

SummerRainIsADistantMemory · 27/05/2013 17:45

Hec... I overuse emoticons too. But then I get given out to in rl too for gesticulating too much so it's obviously a universal character flaw Blush

And I lol, because I am and it's easier than writing 'that made me laugh'

Stinkyminkymoo · 27/05/2013 18:09

I love it and have used it at work and wish wish wish fb had it

Sooo YABU

Kasterborous · 27/05/2013 18:53

no

Ilikethebreeze · 27/05/2013 18:59

Used to use it more than I do now, as I got bored with myself doing it.

mrsjay · 27/05/2013 19:28

there is nothing wrong with an over use of a Smile it says how you feel Hmm is how i feel most of the time Grin and talc and turnips can do full posts in them and we all love that, OH id love a vom one as i sometimes used this Envy not the same

CreatureRetorts · 27/05/2013 19:31

YABU

My favourite strike outs are the ones where people get it wrong. So they strike out the bit that shouldn't be struck out and vice versa.

SirChenjin · 27/05/2013 19:34

It's one of the best bits of MN! I often find myself looking for this function when I'm emailing or using word - life would be so much more fun if the MN emoticons and emphases were available elsewhere

Or not, depending on your viewpoint

louisianablue2000 · 27/05/2013 19:38

I love the strikethrough, it's my favourite function on MN.

Springdiva · 27/05/2013 19:43

I think Italics on arial font is a bit feeble whereas when it was used, as it was in the past, with Times New Roman it was more visible. So far from looking more vehement the words now look faded!

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 27/05/2013 19:49

WTF? I didn't even know we had an underline.

I use all the stuff we have far too much, apart from the Bear and Brew

MirandaGoshawk · 27/05/2013 20:04

I find the strike through very useful and would love to see it in 'normal' life (emails/FB) along with the Hmm face. They add a bit of colour, shades of grey rahter than black/white. Smile
