To find that 'strikethrough what you really wanted to say' thing annoying?

Every thread on mumsnet there's some cleverdick person who writes their post in this so called funny way with the irritating things they were 'going' to say crossed out in the middle of their post.

It makes reading things take twice as longer just so someone can be a smartarse so I'm a bit over it. I found it funny the first five times, now I'm just finding it annoying. Grin

Yanbu, if you want to say something have the conviction to say it.

Binkybix · 27/05/2013 15:33

I like it when used for comic effect. Not so much when used in a passive aggressive way like poster on recent thread I was on

My first ever strike though, inspired by this post!

PusscatAndTiger4Eva · 27/05/2013 15:35

I think it's very funny

sorry

SummerRainIsADistantMemory · 27/05/2013 15:40

It's funny when it's done right but it irritates me when people put the crossed out word after the less insulting one as it doesn't read right. The premise is that you type something, cross it out, then right a less insulting politer version.... Not the other way round!

YourMaNoBraBackOfMyCar · 27/05/2013 15:40

I have a bag of fucks over here with your name on it.
Noted. Many thanks.

MeiMeiMeiMei · 27/05/2013 15:42

sometimes it is used in an amusing way; other times it's just lame.

Bullets · 27/05/2013 15:44

I love it, it is so passive aggressive and perfectly mumsnet.

There is an art I using it though I think, massive paragraphs full of strikeouts which are dismally unfunny are a bit tiresome I agree. There are some very witty mumsnetters who use it very well though I think.

GetOrfMoiLand · 27/05/2013 15:51

Creepy brackets are great.

My mumsnet hates are the fucking biscuit and the bastarding bear.

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee · 27/05/2013 15:51

I miss it on my phone for text messages.

Perhaphs this forum 'emphasis' just isn't for you?

GetOrfMoiLand · 27/05/2013 15:51

Art TO using it.

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/05/2013 15:51

Can anyone definitively tell me the following... With the creepy wee brackets should I do this? Or this? I don't want a capital in the brackets after a full stop or question mark but feel I need one because I am a grammar pedant who doesn't know enough.

Thumbwitch · 27/05/2013 15:52

Mrsjay - oh yes you can but you need this website Grin

OP - you can find it annoying, but I quite like it.

I'm getting a bit peed off with the PA Grin though, is that one up from the PA :)

GetOrfMoiLand · 27/05/2013 15:52

You realise you are a bit sad when you find yourself wanting to use brackets and strikeouts in work emails.

mrsjay · 27/05/2013 15:52

I hate the bear only cos I cant do the bear ,

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/05/2013 15:52

Oh, and Bear for GetOrf.

GetOrfMoiLand · 27/05/2013 15:53

No punctuation needed in a creepy wee bracket, IMO.

Thumbwitch · 27/05/2013 15:53

Bear is easy though! Shock
