AIBU to be scared? Wwyd?

Hi,

My first post in AIBU and I need urgent advice.

Our garden backs onto a social club. We have complained about noise both to them and to the council many times.

Yesterday my husband went in and really got angry about the noise.

Today I found a dead pigeon just outside my front garden. It looks like it has a blow to the head.

I know it might be a coincidence but I am scared that it was the people from the social club killing the pigeon and putting it there.

Would it be crazy to call the police? I am scared I have young children and I need to protect them.

Please help!

Do you live near a road.

It may have been hit by a car, they can whoosh off some distance.

pictish · 27/05/2013 10:57

I doubt it's anything to do with the club tbh.

squeakytoy · 27/05/2013 10:57

It could have flown into a window, it could have been attacked by a bigger bird.. I am sure the police have far more important things to do than investigate a dead pigeon!!!!

I would also say you are unreasonable to complain about noise from a social club.

ihateveggies · 27/05/2013 10:58

I live near a quiet road but the pigeon is on the pavement. I think the cars in front of it are the same as last night.

I am feeling completely sick

Hmm this is tricky I guess as social clubs tend to be noisy and filled with families etc so you do have to expect some noise. I know our local one is terribly noisy. Do you own your own home or council rent?

I doubt they would've killed the pigeon its probably been hit by the car. But I think yabu to live near a social club and expect it to be quiet

pictish · 27/05/2013 11:00

I too think that expecting a social club to be quiet is folly.

And the pigeon will be nothing to do with any of it.

MalcolmTuckersMum · 27/05/2013 11:01

If it is the Social Club I'd have to say their impression of Don Corleone is somewhat wanting. I've had a quick Google and a dead pigeon is not a universally recognised symbol of impending catastrophe for you and your family at the hands of enraged Social Clubbers so I think you'll be ok.

HeySoulSister · 27/05/2013 11:02

Why do you feel sick?

It's just noise and a dead bird!!

bankofmum · 27/05/2013 11:02

Surely you knew it was a social club when you moved there so bit u to complain about noise. Bird was probably left by teenagers. What age does social club cater for?

ihateveggies · 27/05/2013 11:02

I own my house. I understand that there is a bit of noise from clubs (it is not a disco by the way) but they regularly breach licensing laws.

I guess I will just make a note on it and if something else happens I can call my neighbourhood watch.

By the way the windows of all the houses are a good distance away so no chance that it flew into a window

Montybojangles · 27/05/2013 11:02

Wouldnt they have left it on your doorstep if it was meant as a message?

I imagine it's a coincidence and has been hit a glancing blow by a car and been bounced off onto the pavement.

squeakytoy · 27/05/2013 11:03

why did you buy a house so close to a social club? Confused

pictish · 27/05/2013 11:04

That's some imagination you have there! Lol!

ihateveggies · 27/05/2013 11:04

The club should cater to old people but actually there are quite a few youngsters.

Being a foreigner I did not know how it was when I bought it (but that is another story).

Pensioners can be noisy too you know... Grin

BarredfromhavingStella · 27/05/2013 11:06

A pigeon, really? Hmm

EllieArroway · 27/05/2013 11:07

First a dead pigeon......then a horse's head in your bed Shock. Be afraid, be very afraid.........

Seriously, OP, don't be scared. Who is going to kill a pigeon as a "message" over a noise complaint? And I think they'd have shoved it through your letterbox if they were thinking along those lines, not left it on the pavement.

Don't worry :)

ihateveggies · 27/05/2013 11:09

Thanks a lot, I am clearly BU. As I said we had not realised that the "social club" would be noisy (I can't go into details but as I said it should cater to old people but it doesn't).

Stressedtothehilt · 27/05/2013 11:09

Then I would say sorry but yabvu if you bought your house and the social club was there first. Going round there shouting won't help either. Maybe its time to sell up and move

WorraLiberty · 27/05/2013 11:10

By the way the windows of all the houses are a good distance away so no chance that it flew into a window

There's every chance it flew into a window and carried on stunned...until it collapsed where you found it.

Is it a British Legion club?

Either way if someone wanted to cause trouble for you, it'd be easier to shove dog shit through your letterbox or something.

Finding chasing a pigeon, catching it, clubbing it over the head and dumping it outside your house sounds far too bothersome.

squeakytoy · 27/05/2013 11:10

for heavens sakes.. any type of public building where people congregate is likely to be noisy.. and yes, you are being silly and unreasonable

NonnoMum · 27/05/2013 11:11

Yes. I would be worried. Non emergency police. 101.

And perhaps a meeting with the management.

squeakytoy · 27/05/2013 11:12

Perhaps you should ring the RSPB first and ask them to do an autopsy.. Hmm

WorraLiberty · 27/05/2013 11:14

I think the whole area should be sealed off and forensics brought in.

ihateveggies · 27/05/2013 11:14

Hi squeaky, please there is no need to be sarcastic.

As I said the majority thinks that I am unreasonable and I won't pursue. Do I have the right to be scared though?
