To hate football and the amount of TV coverage it gets...

Just switched on to ITV and guess what - some European cup final with two German teams!! I really dislike football and wonder whether anyone really gives a shit cares about a game like this in the UK?
Why does football coverage get preference over everything else?
I'll be on MN tonight.

Womens football is a very different game (more physical, less diving and less play acting imho) but great to watch. There should be more womens football on tv (and if a woman is good enough she should be able to play with the boys too)

racmun · 25/05/2013 20:29

I fucking hate football. We have sky sports in this house but only on the sitting room tv which means I'm relegated to the bedroom if I want to watch tv.

The last few weeks there has been loads of it on.

It is soooooooo boring and my dh will watch ANY match he can even if he doesn't support the bloody team playing.

Thankfully he has gone to the pub tonight to watch whatever shitty match is on and I am watching the voice! Peace and harmony all round

JCDenton · 25/05/2013 20:40

I'm watching it. Very sorry that's such a huge inconvenience. Go for a walk, read a book or something.

I simply can't get into the mindset of hating something that's on TV so much. I don't watch soaps, game shows, talent shows, other sports or anything else which takes up a big chunk of the schedule but so what? Watch them if you want and I'm happy that you enjoy them, I'm not going to start a thread about how shit Strictly is.

Elquota · 25/05/2013 20:47

YANBU. It has far more than its share of airtime.

Where's the equal coverage of all the other things people do in their spare time? Aren't interests such as theatre, art and classical music just as deserving of coverage? Most other activities only get a tiny amount of airtime in comparison to football - it's vastly overrepresented.

I get annoyed that football-related stories often take up so much of the "news" on TV too. I used to much prefer it when it was the News and Sport - with the Sport after the news so you could go and put the kettle on!

And yes, women's football should be shown!

itsallaboutME · 25/05/2013 20:52

Watch the match just to awe at the names Schweinsteiger is the best. Name. Ever!

TeaAddict235 · 25/05/2013 20:55

Been conned into going for a pub meal with dh and friend. Now I know why. Am squashed between 2 Germans (no pun intended). Want to go home, paint nails and do hair.

Oblomov · 25/05/2013 20:57

Agree about the name. Fab.

mummydarkling · 25/05/2013 21:02

This is the champions league final and "my" team Borussia Dortmund are romantic underdog s their motto is "echte liebe" which means real or true love. It is an exciting game.

JCDenton · 25/05/2013 21:04

"Schweinsteiger" translates as "pig farmer", I believe. I don't speak German, though.

itsallaboutME · 25/05/2013 21:10

Tiz the most satisfying name to say but Gundogan is quite good too

mummydarkling · 25/05/2013 21:11

German truly the language of love ECHTE LIEBE!

cantspel · 25/05/2013 21:13

what a clearance

amigababy · 25/05/2013 21:15

we're watching it in Switzerland. We can choose to watch it on 4 different channels in 4 different languages.

And btw Rafael nadal tennis is wonderful, hands off the tennis, French open or otherwise.

amigababy · 25/05/2013 21:18

bizarrely we can also watch darts and snooker here, which knew the Swiss were so cosmopolitan?

itsallaboutME · 25/05/2013 21:22

Ohh nasty! The stamp that is

claig · 25/05/2013 21:22

amigababy, it sounds like paradise!

ems1910 · 25/05/2013 21:24

Turn it off. Um, that's that really. I personally cannot stand TOWIE, the Chelsea one, Geordie version etc so I just flick past the channels. If it wasn't football this evening, it would be that god awful Britain's Got Talent, but again, I would just flick past.

I am watching The Voice but for every person like me watching it there is someone moaning about it.

BigBoobiedBertha · 25/05/2013 21:42

YANBU

I live with 3 males (DH and 2 DSs) who are all mad about football. They are season ticket holders but their main team is 170 miles away so they watch all their matches as well as go to see the more local team. They watch all cups and LTV just for fun. DS1 buys footie magazines which are beginning to take over his room, he switches Sky Sports News as soon as he comes in from school to catch up with the latest. DS2 plays twice a week in 2 different clubs and gives a daily match report of games with his friends at school. I seems to be endlessly washing footie kit. I can't get away from it.

I seems to spend a lot of my time by myself MNing or messing about on the computer generally. I really object to Match of the Day on Saturday evenings. Why is the BBC catering to the minority on a Saturday evening FGS? What's wrong with a good film or something funny?!

Worse still, DH also loves rugby (his first love before DSs were born)' cricket, tennis and F 1. 'But it's a one off/important/my favourite team' seems to be an excuse to monopolise the TV for almost all the year. . I wouldn't mind if he was interested enough to actually play any sport at all but it is all armchair sport.

TeaAddict235 · 25/05/2013 21:44

Game's over now!!!

Back to real life with Deutschemannschaft (Dh) Wink.

LessMissAbs · 25/05/2013 21:50

YANBU. Its also one of the most sexist sports out - its not as if they show equal amounts of womens' football. Or even any womens' football on prime time tv.

I can't stand the mindless tribalism that goes along with it as well.

I am putting darts and snooker in the same category. Although snooker isn't quite so bad, but again half the population are hardly ever depicted playing it.

Why would they show equal amounts of womens football when it is still light years behind mens? They show what people want to watch and even if your team is not in the champions league final football fans still want to want the best teams in europe play. No so many people want to watch unknown women play a weaker game.
