not to want a photo of me and my bloody address available online?

I cut contact with my family some years ago for very good reason. I've just discovered my name and address with a photo of me (taken by my brother on his mobile some years ago) comes up if I google my name. The website has no way of contacting them unless I register and put in my personal details. AIBU to think this is utterly wank. Humph. Not sure how to get rid of this.

Hm. dunno. maybe you need legal advice. Why would he put your address up online?

MissyMooandherBeaverofSteel · 22/05/2013 00:14

It shouldn't be too hard to get it taken down depending on the site.

Email them and explain you have no contact with your family but they have your picture and address on their site and you want it to be removed. Include a link to the image you want removed and a picture of yourself with todays paper (so the site can see the date on it). Most sites wouldn't have a problem removing your information if you provide evidence that you are the person in the photo and wouldn't need to contact the person who put it on in the first place, especially as it has your address on it as well.

I have had to do something similar on a couple of sites (although it didn't have my address on it) when my mother started posting pictures of me and giving a sob story about how I was insane and she was just a loving mother and grandmother who wanted to take care of me and make sure my children were ok because I ran away from home even though I'm a 33 year old married mother of 4 who moved for dhs work but hadn't spoken to my mother for a year beforehand anyway.

trashcanjunkie · 22/05/2013 00:14

he's just thoughtless, I don't imagine he did it with any malice. I can't understand how it's allowed though. It's got my full name, address, postcode, a photo he took of me and a flippin' google map to my house. The website is called navpix and it has no way of complaining or asking for my personal details to be removed. I'm a really private person when it comes to these things. I'm so upset about it!

do you think I should register with them? I don't actually trust them with my details. That's the only way to get their email address.

MissyMooandherBeaverofSteel · 22/05/2013 00:19

You shouldn't have to register with them, there should be a 'contact us' email address somewhere on the site or you could google them to find out, if it comes down to it you could set up a fake account with fake details.

trashcanjunkie · 22/05/2013 00:24

there's nothing I promise, and when you click onto the 'contact us' link, it re-directs to a totally different sight! Oh for the internet police....

How weird Confused that can't be good for business.

Oh well then, I would create an email account especially to register with the site and do it that way then.

LackaDAISYcal · 22/05/2013 00:29

There is a contact link at the bottom of this page It takes you to FAQs but says if you can't find an answer you will then be able to contact them.

Or have you tried that already?

ah, I see you've tried that already...

It takes you to the parent company website....use their contact form?

What a crock of shite though.

Failing that, is there a regulator for this sort of thing?

LackaDAISYcal · 22/05/2013 00:35

Phone number for Mio, who appear to be the parent company HERE

EatenByZombies · 22/05/2013 00:44

Have done some internet policing (am a pretty heavy computer nerd).
Navpix.net is owned by Mio-Technology (the website you get forwarded to when clicking on FAQ/support)

navpix.net.whoisbucket.com/

Mio-Technology don't have a support email address as of this moment in time. I registered on Naxpix, but you need to be registered on Mio.com to be able to email them via the form provided above ^ and TBH I can't be arsed.

They do, however, have a phone number;
01293 566 100 for main switchboard (noted on their website for not providing support but you may be able to have your call transferred.

Otherwise try 01293 566 195 or 0871 277 0139

Refresh page / clear cookies in case you are just seeing a cached version on your browser?

Try not to feel anxious about it, you are probably the only person googling your name ( unless you are famous?)
