Indeed.

JulieMumsnet · 19/05/2013 13:27

We don't all like Gin. Surely that would be discriminatory against those who would rather drink Southern Comfort or wine?

@LRDtheFeministDragon

Tut tut.

I'm sure one of the guidelines is '... and MNHQ staff shall be permitted to have virtual gin at all hours of the day, while on duty ...'.

I would also like to see the guidelines amended for age.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 19/05/2013 13:32

Wine?

LRDtheFeministDragon · 19/05/2013 13:32

There is no proper response for those who drink Southern Comfort, though.

Hmm

Bleugh.

FreddieMisaGREATshag · 19/05/2013 13:46

I like Southern Comfort. Neat. On the rocks.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 19/05/2013 13:48

I don't even like the smell of it. Sorry. Yuck.

But, all power to you and julie.

FreddieMisaGREATshag · 19/05/2013 13:51

Also like Talister. And Laphroig. Grin

FreddieMisaGREATshag · 19/05/2013 13:52

Damn. Talisker.

Buzzardbird · 19/05/2013 13:53

People who drink southern comfort are so rude!

PodgyTumWellies · 19/05/2013 13:55

No. some people who drink southern comfort are rude.

post reported.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 19/05/2013 13:58

Oh, I can cope with Talisker, purely because a lovely mate of mine likes it.

See?

Not whiskey-ist, me. Grin

FreddieMisaGREATshag · 19/05/2013 14:03

Talisker is whisky.

Bushmills is whiskey.

GobbySadcase · 19/05/2013 14:03

Disablism is tolerated too sometimes, when it's challenged.

That's not right either but it's allowed to stand, because it's been challenged.

Hey ho.

Wish there was a bloody rolly eyed emoticon round here.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 19/05/2013 14:07

You mean Southern Sweet-Rot isn't, freddie? Grin

A woman after my own heart.

FreddieMisaGREATshag · 19/05/2013 14:09

Grin no it's a wee sub-category all of it's own. Actually technically it's a liquer according to wikiwotshit here

LRDtheFeministDragon · 19/05/2013 14:12

I've had this discussion many times with US friends ... it seems that to some, it's a whiskey, to others, it is classified with bourbons, and to others its 'that abomination'. Grin

But yes. Sorry, this doesn't really solve the issue.

FreddieMisaGREATshag · 19/05/2013 14:13

It's like Jack Daniels where they call it whiskey but to me it's a bourbon ....

Grin
LRDtheFeministDragon · 19/05/2013 14:17

This is true.

kickassangel · 19/05/2013 14:20

I know nothing about whiskey, but I do think that if people want to educate someone then pulling their thread carries a message.

If every time someone tried to say something sexist ageist etc they had their comments deleted then they would learn that those comments are not to be tolerated. Finding their voice silenced is a far greater impact than engaging with them.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 19/05/2013 14:21

I agree, kickass.

If people want to educate someone, they will do that. It is not actually that hard to write an OP or a post that isn't offensive. Deleting threads and posts that are offensive would encourage people to learn how to do that (if they don't know, which I find hard to believe in most situations).

HintofBream · 19/05/2013 16:07

A few weeks ago there was a thead wherein the notion of pensioners enjoying sex met with responses ranging from amused disbelief to outright revulsion. When I enquired why it was OK to be ageist but not disablist etc, I was told by several posters that it was just a lighthearted bit of fun. Try telling the parent of a child with special needs that joking about them is funny. Glad to see some different opinions on here.
