I'm so upset :(

It's my birthday, was supposed to be going to the cinema, but all my health conditions have flared up, so have had to cancel. So I thought I'd do something I never do, and buy some fancy chocolates to eat with a film at home instead. Went to my favorite chocolate shop, got a selection of chocolates, did my grocery shopping, and got on the bus home. Put my shopping bag in the rack, within eyesight, as not much leg room with a stick as well.

Woman got on the bus with her adult sister and two kids. Sister and older child went upstairs, woman stayed downstairs with the buggy. When they were getting off, the sister said, "Oh, and don't forget this!". Saw her hand a bag over from the same chocolate shop. Didn't think anything of it until I went to get off two stops later, checked my bags, and the chocolates had gone.

It's not just about the chocolates. It';s about the fact I was trying to make up for my birthday plans going out of the window because of my health. I very rarely buy chocolates, especially never 'nice' chocolates, and it felt nice to make a bit of a fuss over my birthday when I normally don't.

Who the hell just steals a bag of chocolates? Why would you do that??

So... AIBU to hope they get recalled urgently she really hates my choice in chocolates?

That is so awful, I really feel for you. I had my purse nicked on my birthday once and was in bits. But as a chocolate addict (who is a snob and buys it from a posh chocolate shop) I would be gutted if it was nicked.

I don't buy myself nice things very often, certainly not nice chocolates, and to just have them taken has upset me. Don't make a big fuss about my birthday, but I was really looking forward to sitting down later with the chocolates, a film, and a glass of wine, once DS was in bed.

Why would the woman announce to her sister (and the rest of the bus) that they were about to take a bag that wasn't theirs?

Is is possible that they also had a bag of chocolates and had forgotten who was actually holding them?

It wasn't a mistake, as it was a 'Hotel Chocoolat' bag. They would have both known what was in it. And seeing as the older of the children was eating a bag of Thorntons chocolates, I highly doubt they got confused thinking it was theirs.

I'd like to think it was an honest mistake, but there was a pause as it was handed from one sister to another, I should have got suspicious then.

Lambzig, I used my birthday money (without wishing to sound like a child..!) - there was a pack of the Lemon Cheesecake, a pack of one of the types of praline, a pack of Raspberry Moose, a pack of Gin Collins and a pack of Trillionaire Shortbread... As well a two extra free tasters that the manager gave me because he heard it was my birthday (I'd been on the phone when I arrived in the shop). I love the fruit ones :(
