To think that David Beckham's retirement was both lead story and occupied the entire first 15 minutes of Sky News at Six?

Admire his philanthropic work (although not naive enough to not realise that does also support 'Brand Beckham' hugely, a brand that is worth millions and worldwide) big-time; can see his extraordinary football skills and career; and - now seems to have grown up a bit and is not shagging his PR - he does now genuinely seem like a great role model.

But...

Does that really mean his retirement is the single biggest and longest news story on Sky?

FWIW, April Jones's alleged killer's trial was after it, as was Syria etc.

Disgusting that the April jones trial coverage, and the atrocities in syria are not deemed as important as this eejit retiring, or anyone else in the public eye retiring for that matter.

YANBU - I was gob-smacked when I switched on for the BBC news this afternoon. With all that is happening in the country we have this as lead story - once again a celeb life is put ahead of important news items. I switched off.

It depends on where your interests lie, I suppose. You're neither reasonable nor unreasonable, you just have your own priorities and preferences when it comes to news.

The newspapers will be full of it tomorrow. Full page spreads and special commemorative pull outs.
