AIBU?

AIBU to thnk it's perfectly fine for my 19 month old DS to have long hair, occasionally in a pony and also play with a pushchair?

DS2 is the typical blonde blue eyed little toddler. His hair is quite long. I like it this way as does DH. Obviously he has haircuts but I love his hair too much to let him have it fully chopped off. Because of his length I usually stick it up in to a ponytail when for example he is eating a meal because it can flop in to his eyes.

DH's brothers find it 'wrong' that their nephew has his hair this way. Often they go on the wind saying that I secretly wanted him to be a girl because I also let him play with a toy pushchair Confused. I already have DT one of whom is a girl so that's hardly the case.

I personally don't see anything wrong with a boy playing with a pushchair in a similar way I don't see it a problem a girl playing with cars. They think I'm leading him down the wrong path and he'll soon start asking for dolls and dresses.

DS has a pink shirt in his wardrobe too amongst an array of typical boy types - which they also find horrific.

I'd much rather see a young male child with a ponytail than a balding middle-aged man with one.

Even if there was a scientifically proven correlation between hair length and homosexuality, I still find nothing wrong with being gay.

Maybe you should confront your BILs on the matter and get them to shut up.

Ds2 had a pram. Loved it. Not a fan of long hair on boys and also not a fan of having boy hair cuts on girls. Ds 2 is austic and he finds it very hard when children don't fit the 'norm' . As long as you are happy for my ds to come along and call him a girl then that's fineSmile

Twatty phone.

He won on holiday.
I had to have a chat lecture with my 11 yo who thought it was 'wrong' that his brother wanted to wear a girls ring.
7yo thinks it looks like rock star jewellery but his older brother sees it as 'girly and sparkly'

I walked the half mile down to the shops with baby in the pram last week. DS1 also walked down with his baby (doll) in his pram. He got a llot of "ahhs". He wouldn't have walked that far without it, and enjoyed doing what both parents do. He's had it a year since he was learning to walk- it was that that gave him the confidence to go solo.

Nothing wrong with long hair either!

It is discouraging that this thread even exists. I thought we were beyond this already. It's such a non issue

I agree, the vast majority of boys play with toy prams, dolls and have long hair at some point.

I think making a big thing of it can make them run in the opposite direction tbh.

DS had longish hair (his dad's is long enough to tie back). He did ask for it to be cut when he was mistaken for a girl when he was about 6.

I don't think its a problem as long as you know that sometime people may think he's a girl whilst he is little.

I know a few men that would act like that about 'girls' toys etc - its pathetic and sad!

DS2 asked our friend for a pony (my little) for his 3rd birthday, she asked me first in case my husnad would mind as some people are so funny about it. He (DS not DH) used to sit there for ages brushing its hair.

Also - DS2s learning journey from pre-school is full of photos of him dressed as various disney princesses!

Fine to play with buggy, my ds happily did.

Don't agree with the hair though - I don't like impractical styles on a 1yo personally and I think that if it needs tying back to eat, it is a nuisance which I wouldn't have tolerated on either my ds or dd at such a young age.

Most small boys with long hair seem to have it long for their mother's benefit. If it's long for his benefit fine, but if it's just for yours and it's getting in his food etc then why not have it cut?
He's not a pet.

I love the long curly hair that boys seem to get, DS's hair goes that way if it's left but he gets incredibly irate with it and takes himself off to the barbers for a number 2!
His friend has perfected the shaggy longer hair look over the years, in fact I don't think he has ever had short hair as far as I can remember. It seems to be quite popular round here as does boys with prams, they usually have a Thomas train or some kind of weird looking animal in there... Grin
YANBU, life is too short to get worked up about hair.
