to ask if you know of any 'urban myths' that are actually true?

a colleague told me the other day that her husband had been to school with a brother and sister called Everard and Ophelia Dick. I was very dismissive, told her I'd heard that story several times before, that it was an urban myth and possibly on snopes.com.

Luckily I stopped short of saying that the story probably had racist undertones.

But I've just googled them and they're well documented in the same town that her husband is from. So the chances are he's right. I'm very Blush and will have to tell her so in the morning.

I get so used to these name tales being false and offensive that I didn't think there was any way it was going to be true.

Does anybody know if any of the others are true?

Boring. I thought this was going to be about someone who actually knows of an incident where a young couple stop for a snog in the woods one night and he hears a noise and gets out of the car to investigate and the next thing she knows his head bounces off the bonnet. Shock

Racist? RACIST?!

You are being v. OTT here and to jump in and correct your friend before you knew it was true or not is actually rather rude.

I thought it was an urban myth that if you use an eyelash curler while you are wearing mascara it chops your eyelashes. It is not as it has happened to me and i have a row of eyelash stubs to prove it! Blush The eyelash curler is new and i notice that when i press it down the metal bit touches the metal bit of the bottom, instead of just the plastic cushion bit, so it might be a bit misaligned. I did press it down quite hard

I work for a head hunter, I swear I have seen real CVs for a "Ben Down" and "Randy Sessions" (the second is American) In fact there's been a few hideous names where I've thought "really, what were the parents thinking?" then I look on the baby names section on here and realise there's a lot of parents who don't think these things through
