to ask if you know of any 'urban myths' that are actually true?

a colleague told me the other day that her husband had been to school with a brother and sister called Everard and Ophelia Dick. I was very dismissive, told her I'd heard that story several times before, that it was an urban myth and possibly on snopes.com.

Luckily I stopped short of saying that the story probably had racist undertones.

But I've just googled them and they're well documented in the same town that her husband is from. So the chances are he's right. I'm very Blush and will have to tell her so in the morning.

I get so used to these name tales being false and offensive that I didn't think there was any way it was going to be true.

Does anybody know if any of the others are true?

My Mum used to know an Ophelia Ball and a friend of mine had a college tutor called Pat Mycock.

Another friend, who's a midwife, had to gently dissuade Mr and Mrs Neal from calling their newborn son Perry.....

I went to school (in Yorkshire) with a girl called Emma Dale, she was born the year before the soap started. A boy in the year below was called Robin Holmes. Really some parents need to have a long hard think before naming their kids!

Trumpton · 12/05/2013 22:10

And I had a friend called Jen Taylor . Never known as Jenny .

Theas18 · 12/05/2013 22:10

Yup. I know a Mike Hunt. Used to die on con calls. Particularly when the female head of department used to say "anyway, back to Mike Hunt". No, I'd really rather not!

My dad has an American cousin called Candy Barr.

My Aunt used to teach twins: Armani and Versace Mclatchie.
