They keep hitting him, poor dab. Clearly they don't understand him like I do.

Lovely lovely Benedict....

I've listed a spoiler warning because I want to drool over enthuse about the film with y'all Wink

The Klingon forehead ridge now you don't see it/now you do was explained in Enterprise as a genetic engineering mutation virus type thing in the Arik Soong story arc.

They could conceivably have a veeja or whales film as both were launched before the timeline was buggered.

Loved the film, not too sure about Cumerwotsit as I have lusted after Montalban as Khan since my formative years

marjproops · 14/05/2013 18:36

not able to go to flicks. cumber is Khan??????? noooooo.

does he have the south am,erican accent too?

iklboo · 14/05/2013 18:54

No Marj. Most definitely not!

marjproops · 14/05/2013 19:03

oh for fli-ps sake, will that later be explained then as a timey-wimey genetic technobabble then? what, he speaks then in his sherlock voice????

come on,Khan is fantasy island accent man!!!!

NiceTabard · 14/05/2013 20:04

Khan was fab wasn't he.

And in the film with the PROPER 80s hair Grin

marjproops · 14/05/2013 20:07

oh yes, the proper 80's hair, that was sooooo Pat Sharp/Rod Stewart/Bon Jovi!!!! and the costume, more 'Kiss' than space age!

NiceTabard · 14/05/2013 20:08

No you can't account for the differences between benedict and ricardo with timey wimey stuff!

Mr cumberbatch could never pull off that hair or a glittery fishnet top!

marj you have been vindicated.

NiceTabard · 14/05/2013 20:10

false chest and big hair

marjproops · 14/05/2013 20:14

i almost dont WANT to watch this film, and if there's more spock/uhura lovey stuff then defo not.

I know I know, the pedants are out in force now!nit-picking.
some trek is better than NO trek!

NiceTabard · 14/05/2013 20:18

They are together but not all over each other at all.

You'd almost wonder whether the real love interest with spock lay elsewhere

marjproops · 14/05/2013 20:24

Lol nice.

I hated in TNG the Riker/Troi, on/off thing, like flipping Ross and Rachel. Then Troi gets it on with Worf for an episode then thats all forgotten.....(anorak hiding face now)

NiceTabard · 14/05/2013 20:34

That was when data and tasha yar had it away wasn't it?

Damn those lust inducing alien things!!!!

NiceTabard · 14/05/2013 20:35

riker and troi was annoying
ditto picard and crusher

NiceTabard · 14/05/2013 20:36

I liked deanna's mum though Grin

Remember the whole naked wedding thing?

She was played by majel barret wasn't she?

JessicaBeatriceFletcher · 15/05/2013 08:22

Tabard - yes, Lwaxana Troi was played by Majel Barrett, who was Nurse (later Dr) Christine Chapel. And, of course, Mrs Gene Roddenberry. Better actress than has often been given credit for, in my humble. Oh, and you do know that Ricardo Montalban's chest was not fake? It's the question director Nick Meyer is most often asked. Montalban worked out every single day until he was pretty old.

Chesntoots · 15/05/2013 09:08

I thought he was going to say the "second star on the left" thing. Very disappointed. That would have made all the fans smile.
I think I preferred the first one though. The storyline in this one wasn't as strong. Still loved it though.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 15/05/2013 10:40

I get The Lust for Worf, NiceTabard. I imagine he would make one feel all delicate and feminine and swept off one's feet. > Blush

SgtTJCalhoun · 15/05/2013 11:46

Saw it last night, loved it. Don't get all the references but loved it. Almost walked out the cinema in a fury at one point though, guess when?

QueenStromba · 15/05/2013 14:31

Spock and Uhura's little fight on the shuttle?

NiceTabard · 15/05/2013 19:07

jessica yes I know it's not fake Grin but LOOK at it!!!!! It is bizarre. Mind you between the chest and the hair the whole ensemble is a bit of a shocker!

@ worf lust Grin

I didn't really fancy any of the blokes in the other series that I can think of

NiceTabard · 15/05/2013 19:09

Ooh jessica also she did the computer voice on all the series and the films up until she died (I am pretty sure - may google quickly).

there was a documentary on recently about TOS with Gene rodenberry's son - she was on it but she was very tight lipped about everything which was a bit disappointing.

SAHRum · 15/05/2013 19:16

YADNBU!

I'm no trekkie so can't comment if the film was right/wrong but I really enjoyed it and that had EVERYTHING to do with Mr Cumberbatch who I love love love there simply wasn't enough of him in it. He was misunderstood wasn't he HH

JessicaBeatriceFletcher · 16/05/2013 08:48

Tabard - she did, and I think she recorded her few lines for the reboot just a couple of days before she died. I thought that was great and the fact that even though STVI was dedicated to Gene Roddenberry (who had just died), the reboot was dedicated to both Gene and Majel. She also helped produce a couple of other shows Gene had ideas for after he died. She was a smart cookie and apparently an incredibly nice woman who was enormously popular at conventions because she took a lot of time to speak with fans and would often remember them from year to year. When she died, there was a huge outpouring on the internet from the Trekkies as she was regarded as The First Lady of Star Trek.

NiceTabard · 16/05/2013 13:48

I think gene roddenberry was a pretty shitty husband though - didn't he have loads of affairs?

marjproops · 17/05/2013 20:40

is the new film a 12a?

Dcs 12 and shes as much a trekkie as me, ? do you think she could handle it? as in anything remotely innapropriate?
