Second star on the right is a Peter Pan reference, nicetabard Grin at least, I think so!

Don't need wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff. Last film a new universe was created when the Romulan chap came back and destroyed Vulcan. From that point on, everything can be different. (Except Spock mustn't get kissey Angry

NiceTabard · 12/05/2013 19:28

Aha that may be why i didn't get it then!

That away would have been more appropriate Grin

marjproops · 12/05/2013 19:29

Kirk said '2nd star to the right' in ST Vl the undiscovered country. one of the films anyway.

marjproops · 12/05/2013 19:30

im not a fan of the cumberband but anyone in ST gets my vote so may be beginning to like him....

mind you still cant stand tom hardy (ducks quickly)

NiceTabard · 12/05/2013 19:33

oooh thanks marj

can you remember where that away came from? it is annoying me as i'm sure I saw it recently but OTOH I might be imagining it!

NiceTabard · 12/05/2013 19:39

Sorry am derailing thread!

I thought the first film was better - I enjoyed the bits with young kirk and spock at the beginning. Also had more nimoy action Grin

Hopefully the next one will be a barnstormer. For a start spock and uhura need to split up Grin

marjproops · 12/05/2013 19:39

no cant remmeber the 'that away' one though.

have to say though i thnk the casting for Kirk, Spock and Bones is spot on. on the fence with the others.

Ooooh thanks leonie!

I think the casting is good but very not sure about spock. I thought zachary quinto was great (and gorgeous) in heroes but he just doesn't do it for me as spock. Mind you I kind of had a thing for spock in TOS from age 8, so that's 30 years of spock/nimoy, so probably no-one was ever going to be good enough.

Have posted on another thread, but oh, How I loved this! I was looking forward as soon as I saw the first trailers, and thought it was brilliant. The CGI was so believeable. I must see it again!

NiceTabard · 12/05/2013 19:47

I really need to buy those books! I have rediscovered my TOS love in the last couple of years and am inhaling anything I can find. Got the DVDs of all series and films for xmas and working my way through.

Leonard nimoy & spock both gorgeous in my book Smile

As a slight aside, what other stuff were you impressed by in the film? I was blown away by the aliens in the opening scenes - incredible make-up and contact lenses!

I thought the dialogue was ever so slightly too informal between the bridge crew - not professional enough for Starfleet IMO

I quite like the Spock/Uhura thing. Spuhura? Upock?

NiceTabard · 12/05/2013 20:07

nimoy is fucking hot full stop

NiceTabard · 12/05/2013 20:09

Is /was?

I mean he's 80 now so maybe not so much
Still got the spockiness though

Have you seen the audi ad with leonard nimoy and zachary quinto? is quite funny

DH and I saw it last night and yeah, better than expected. The last film was definitely meh, probably because they spent so much time introducing all the characters and I was itching for more story.

Liked how in this one the Cabbage Patch guy was sort of a baddie, but you couldn't be sure at one point because the good guy who was out to get him was a real baddie. Thing is though, in my mind, Khan will always be Ricardo Montalban, his "soft Corinthian Leather," and the ghastly new wave meets road warrior haircut.

Not keen on the timey wimey stuff, the showing Kirk constantly after women (yes, we get that he's a bit of a bad boy, enough,) or the lovers' tiff and snogging between Spock and Uhura. All detracts from what was actually quite a good story line.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 12/05/2013 21:24

Yes - a big, fat urghhh to the Spock-Uhura sex thing.
