They keep hitting him, poor dab. Clearly they don't understand him like I do.

Lovely lovely Benedict....

I've listed a spoiler warning because I want to drool over enthuse about the film with y'all Wink

Although my best friend and I once spent quite a lot of time (mainly under the influence of cherry brandy) writing our own Star Trek fanfic, in which her character got Spock, and mine ended up with Bones - neither of us fancied Kirk. I think the original manuscript still exists somewhere .....

NiceTabard · 12/05/2013 21:29

ricardo montelban looked like he was wearing a false chest in TWOK. It is a most bizarre thing.

NiceTabard · 12/05/2013 21:30

Anything except K/S is a travesty, quite frankly.

Been rewatching TOS and my god the flirting. And that's before you even look at the films...

HerrenaHandbasket · 12/05/2013 21:31

That audi ad is brilliant! I showed it to DH and he was all 'Yes dear, very good'.

He doesn't UNDERSTAND

Glad to be of service Grin

Did you show him the pic of kirk with the giant knob as well? Grin

Kellz92 · 12/05/2013 21:35

"I thought this film was going to involve some wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff where they went back and prevented the destruction of Vulcan etc. But it didn't."

They established in the first film that they're on an alternate timeline now, so nothing that happened in the original series/films will happen to these characters (or at least not in the same way).

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 12/05/2013 22:52

I knew there was a reason I needed to watch the previous film. Blush

NiceTabard · 12/05/2013 22:59

Previous film is better IMO.

Deffo watch it Smile

NiceTabard · 12/05/2013 23:00

Although spock is obviously just still WRONG.

But still, it's better I think.

NiceTabard · 12/05/2013 23:02

Maybe the people who enjoyed this new incarnation of Khan would enoy watching the originals?

The Khan episode of TOS features a fairly heavy story line and a young ricardo montelban in a sparkly fishnet top.

You've gotta love TOS Grin

evilartsgraduate · 12/05/2013 23:39

Seriously not getting the BC thing. So not my cuppa. And Simon Pegg gets on my nerves in this role...

NiceTabard · 12/05/2013 23:42

They made simon pegg look really odd in this latest film.
With a sort of greasy combover look going on.
Now I know there was some dodgy hair action with james doohan, but if they are ignoring lots of stuff from TOS why keep scotties bad hair?
Baffling.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 12/05/2013 23:57

Did anyone notice that James Doohan's son was in the cast? He was a transporter officer.

Fecklessdizzy · 13/05/2013 09:57

Wayhey! Can't wait for the Klingons next time! I want Worf doing the " We don't talk about it ( grumpy Klingon face )" thing ... Grin

I got all happy over the Tribble not being dead but think it would have been better if they opened the door to the lab and there were hundreds of the little sods - remember the original episode where they're pouring out of all the cupboards?

Loved Mr. Cummerbund. DP reckons there can be only one Kahn, but what does he know - Sherlock could have Mr-Mad-Max-Mullet and his boy-band minions any day of the week!

What have they done to poor old Simon Pegg's hair ...

P.S The new Spock Rocks Wink

Flobbadobs · 13/05/2013 10:12

Benedict Cumberbatch needs to stay beefed up, I saw his pics at the premier and he looks all weedy again, he's sooo much nicer with a bit of weight on him!!
I haven't seen it yet but my friend went on Thursday and posted teasing things all over FB so he got the spanish inquisition off me Grin
Hopefully seeing it this week, I know what happens but I can't wait!!

Just because he was not injured doesn't mean he didn't feel pain.

I have invented a new genre called "Benedict Cumberbatch wears a coat and tells us how clever he is". I think I would watch pretty much anything from that collection.

Trill · 13/05/2013 10:28

I've never seen a bald Klingon before.

I wondered how they were going to handle the different foreheads of TOS Klingons vs TNG onwards. It was briefly mentioned once in DS9 as "we don't like to talk about it", so it has been acknowledged that the difference is real in-universe.

I was glad to see more Scotty in this film because there was so little of him in the previous one. Although I always felt Scotty was poorly used in several of the films bearing in mind that in the original series he was very definitely the fourth main character - not as prominent as the main trio but much more used (and important) than Sulu, Chekhov and Uhura.

Now that they have really sorted out the Kirk-Spock relationship, I think (and hope) that the next film will show why and how Bones becomes the third corner of that triangle.

I do think Pine, Quinto and Urban were superbly cast - they recreate Shatner, Nimoy & Kelley in ways but don't try to copy them. Nicely done.

I liked the reference to Christine Chapel in the film. I'd much rather they got her back with her quirky fascination for Spock from the original series than the whole Uhura thing.

QueenStromba · 13/05/2013 11:56

I preferred the first film although Benedict Cumberbatch was really good. I never noticed what an amazing voice he has before. I get the feeling I missed a lot of references being a next generation girl. I vaguely remember Spock dying of radiation poisoning and being shot into space but that's all I remember from The Wrath of Khan.
