To think "charged £54 for 4 ice creams in Rome" is a stupid news story...

....or is THIS a proper SCOOP?

Personally I think hundreds and thousands wouldn't find it interesting!

YANBU. Who buys stuff on holiday without checking the price first? The ice cream cafe only gets away with charging those prices because tourists don't check before they buy and are too embarrassed to say anything when the bill is handed to them.

I see what you did there Wink

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 08/05/2013 22:45

Prices aren't always that clearly displayed, fyi.

Or so I found out when I was charged £18 for three ice-creams in Florence. It was our first day in Italy and we had no idea that when the woman said "grande?" she really did mean "absolutely enormous".

spiritedaway · 08/05/2013 22:50

They got what they asked for with a cherry on the top but, if you ask me, the ice cream vendor had a lot of sauce. Even if the kids were listening I would have told him to fudge it.

ConfusedPixie · 08/05/2013 22:51

Mary But surely you ask before you buy? Confused I can see how this happens if people don't want to ask, but then I just don't trust shops in tourist places.

Wallison · 08/05/2013 22:51

That's cold.

WafflyVersatile · 08/05/2013 22:51

It's not a news story. It's a article in a travel section of a newspaper.

Oo, completely missed the twist there Blush I'm too tired for puns! and I can never thing them up myself

deedotty · 08/05/2013 22:53

I'd have SPLIT when the bill came. Or pointed a MAGNUM at the cafe owner. It wouldn't have been a FAB experience for anyone.
