We went to the park yesterday it gets pretty packed . There's a closed off area with all the swings , slides etc in and there must have been about 50 children in there .

My friend came with her children and the little ones went and played we sat and had a picnic

The little ones were in the play area with my friends 12 yo daughter but after a while all the children blend into one another and I get panicky if I can't see my daughter straight away do I put a hi vis bib on her .
Straight way I could pick her out from the crowd

My friend thought this terrible , even saying it was cruel as she's " never ever in her life seen a child in a high vis bib before at the park"

My dd is in a school trip today and I'm thinking of putting the bib on her today , just so she stands out and is visible to the teachers amongst 30 other children
She is 5 yo

AIBU and OTT !???

My school started putting hi-vis jackets on the children (even to go to the church over the road - madness!) for trips and I hate it!

Instead of our distinctive uniform standing out so it's really easy to spot our children, they blend in with all the other schools.

Makes life twice as hard!

I used to put my DTs in fluorescent orange cardis knitted in that funny bright orange acrylic wool, that I picked up in about sale or something. They looked funny and cute. But watching twins in a park is another matter... I also use fluorescent bibs for long walks home on dark evenings and think they're great for that purpose.

Do you live in Midwich?

Hulababy · 07/05/2013 21:10

We put hi vis jackets on children when we take them out of school on trips.
If only one class going - all children wear them.
If more than one class- we put on on one child in each pair (they walk in pairs) and try to chose the children who will wear them based on flight risk, etc.

However, on a hot day like today, they may well be ditched once at the location if children take their jackets or cardis off.

We put them all back on again for the walk/trip back to school.

These threads make me really question the sanity of those round me.

FourLittleDudes · 07/05/2013 21:22

My almost 2 year old has a high vis - his has grandads little helper written on it - and I don't care if its ott or not but I am going to put it in him next time we are at the park as I spent the whole time that we were there last time on edge as he kept disappearing into the crowds of children (I do watch him but I have 4 children to watch) so thank you for giving me the idea!

stickortwist · 07/05/2013 21:27

Get a bright orange/ red/ yellow jacket or coat instead. Does the same job but you dont look like a loon.

crashdoll · 07/05/2013 21:41

I do wonder where people go where there are crowds of children in the sort of environment that most people let their children run free. Ok, a very sunny day at the zoo but an average day in your bog standard park? I think it's sensible to put your children in bright coats but high vis will make you look neurotic, unless you have several very young children who are bolters.

HollaAtMeBaby · 07/05/2013 22:14

This is INSANELY PFB. I only hope it's a wind-up.

Dye her hair turquoise. It will serve the same purpose and be more fun for everyone else.

whatamardarse · 08/05/2013 12:59

I really don't know why the op is bring ridiculed?

Of course we all know that kids don't wander off, that no children have ever gone missing, have never been snatched, there isnt evil people in the world, children dont get lost. AND if it were to happen of course it would all ways be to some one else!

If I was in crowded place and my child was shooting off and blending in, hell yes, I would do it. And I really think it would just be the adults that are finger pointing and sniggering.

To which I wouldn't give a flying fuck!!!

squoosh · 08/05/2013 13:05

Get a grip!

NoWayPedro · 08/05/2013 13:11

I hope this doesn't catch as otherwise we're all going to need to invest in awesome sunglasses to avoid the glare from the kiddies Grin

NoWayPedro · 08/05/2013 13:12

*on

Floggingmolly · 08/05/2013 13:13

But if everybody thought like the op then all the children would blend in, in their little high vis vests, whatamardarse. What's the bloody point of that?

CockyFox · 08/05/2013 13:14

At the school I worked at all the LSPs had a hi-vis vest the same colour as the child they support at all times so that if a child who could only communicate with one person was able to be got to him/her asap. If other children wore them it woukd bugger the system.
