over basic cleanliness when dealing with chicken pox spots?

DD (2yo) has chicken pox and most of the spots are drying out. We have to put a cream on twice a day, which is something I have done for the last week. DP was about to do it today for the first time.

I asked him to wash his hands before he put the cream on to try to avoid infecting the spots (he had ben vigorously scratching his balls). He said that was an exaggeration (I was being OCD) but did wash his hands. I then said that I tried to use different fingers to put the cream on to avoid infecting one spot from the other, but he said there was no way he was doing that.

He had just done all the spots in her genital area, including inside her bottom and I asked him if he could use the other hand for her face, but he then used the other hand to scratch his balls, so I asked him to wash his hands again. At which point he said he would either do it his way or he wouldn't do it all.

AIBU to think that a grown man should know to wash his hands and not touch his balls while dealing with spots that can get infected? I know I ended up giving him a lot of suggestions which can be aggravating but was I supposed to just let him scratch his balls and then touch DD's spots without saying anything?

Aha! Today was the first time he'd had to do it, and he hoped to make it the last!

Tell him you're on to him and that riskin infecting an innocent child, just so he could not have to do it again, is more disgusting than the hygiene issue.

Rub your nekkid bum on a plate before serving him food on it and make sure he sees you doing it

He has this obsession with his glasses, they have to be immaculately clean...

You see, he can do it (keep clean). That makes this hypocrisy about the chicken pox spots all the more mean and selfish. Sad.

Other people's lives! Would you scratch your fanny whilst standing naked applying cream to your dd's vagina? Er probably not.

I know this a serious thread but I am giggling away at some of the responses!

He is an idiot if he thinks scratching his balls before touching his daughter's face is appropriate. If the doctor telling him not to do it is what it takes then I'd do it.

I showed DP this thread, apparently his favourite comment is "minging minger". He then proceeded to scratch his balls and offer a photo for the delectation of the MN crowd.

So I took quoteunquote's advice and showed him photos of infected spots and that did the trick!!! RESULT thanks to MN! Turns out he though that an infected spot would just be a bigger spot. He's been washing his hands all day long!
