To have the urge to knock all the items off the shelf

at the supermarket checkouts where products are put at child height for the sole purpose to pester the adult.
I was shocked today at the supermarket, it had one of those single queue snake systems that leads to all the tills. We were in the queue moving forward an inch at a time and we were literally surrounded by sweets and crap put at child height on both sides for the entire length of the queue. Nearly all the parents spent the whole time saying no as their children pestered and pulled things off the shelves whilst juggling baskets and shopping.
AIBU to be so annoyed by this. If it hadn't been the only supermarket in the area I would have walked out.

My local WHSmiths is like that. Even the cashier asks if Id like one of their 'special offer' sweets or chocolates. It drives me crazy, specially as Ive just spent 2 hours walking around Tesco avoiding the chocolate and bakery isles!

Been like this since I was small. Remember my Mother being cross about it. It's seems to be the done thing Angry

If you're too tired to distract DC with "Let's count/check off against our list" I'd employ the whole "If you're good in the supermarket we will have/do X when we get home", bribery trick. Prempt the whole process before you even leave.

I would have been cross as the children pulling stuff off the shelves too.

I use to challenge my children to rearrange them as much as possible, and smile at anyone that objected, and explain it was Karma.

Write to their HO - I thought I had read, some years back, that those checkout displays were removed under a code of practice.

i used to work in a supermarket... shops do this for that very reason

kids pester - patents buy most of the time

*parents! Blush

Might I suggest for revenge purposes, you rearrange herbs and spices thus:

Corriander
Lemongrass
Italian Style Seasoning (there is one)
Taragon
Oregano
Rosemary
Sesame

you can follow it with

Basil
Oregano
Lemongrass
Lemongrass
Oregano
Cinnamon
Kava
Saffron

Amuses me for hours buggering up their displays Grin

little things please little minds

HollyBerry I amused myself during a trip to the garden centre by rearranging the letter ornaments that spelled "live" so that they said "vile" instead.

I'm easily amused.

rottentomatoes · 04/05/2013 18:47

I am loving the ideas.

Yes, keep them coming.

It was M&S btw.

I thought this was going to be a cutted up pear thread.

AmazingB - evil spelt backwards.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 04/05/2013 19:54

Oh bugger I didn't think of that one.
