Blue badge parking and non emergency midwife appointments

I know I know this old chestnut again but I am full of sugar and just a tad pissed off.

Second time a midwife on routine appointments at child centre has felt entitled to park in blue badge space. The other space today was also used by non blue badge holder - I checked.

Why does she feel entitled to park there when car park busy? there is a perfectly good road outside the car park in which she could park her car!
I have DD who is blue badge holder and the space is essential for getting her safely in and out of centre.

Please tell me I ANBU?

Of course you're not bu. I'd speak to receiptionist at childrens centre, this really shouldn't be happening, and she should know better!

email the practice manager and ask if there could be more spaces allocated for disability parking, as now one of the staff is disabled and using the space.

and take photos on your phone to email to the practice manager.

Atyourcervix I was not there to see midwife was dropping DD off at preschool as the children centre does lots of different things.

The NHS does not turn a blind eye to staff who abuse disabled parking - we routinely get emails from property services telling staff to move their cars, and said dickheads are Dealt With. Quite right too.

Round 1: I did tell reception staff that I had blocked 2 cars in that were parked in bb space without bb.

Round 2: midwife still parked in the space for blue badge. (2 hours later)

Said to reception staff AGAIN that I had blocked in said car. They responded that they were keeping an eye on the situation (I thought this was positive UNTIL they stated that the car park was busy anyway.

  1. I was told that it was basically ok for the midwife to park there as she has lots of equipment that needs to be brought in.
  1. They are there until 6pm so its ok for Blue badge holder to block them in as they wont need to move their car.
  1. When I suggested that midwife has own space I was told that they cannot allocate spaces for everyone.

BASICALLY TOUGH SHIT was the message I took from this.

It's a shame she doesn't even feel it necessary to pop back out and move her car to another space after she has unloaded.

She is either being very very obtuse about why people, including her own patients, actually need the spaces or she actually does not care.

Mind your own business, blue badge holder, you can't use a space for your daughter that the badge entitles you to use, because they're being taken up by people without disabilities, but shut the hell up cos it's bog all to do with you where they park, eh?

I don't know much about blue badges (apart from never parking in a BB space without a BB, obvs) but is it illegal to park in a BB space without a badge? Does it make a difference if it's private land compared to say a "Disabled" space marked on the road, or a council car park or something?

The reason I ask is that I wonder if you could ring someone (council parking enforcement? police?) and just have the damn thing towed!

Health centre /NHS would need to have in force a contract with a towing company before said company would respond to a call, and if op was blocking in thecar to be towed ,well, midwife may appear and sit in her car/start engine so making any lift illegal , or even inform nice mr tow away guy she has to rushout/away to an emergency

Is this private or council land for the car park? I think the scheme doesn't apply on off street car parks (private) in some towns but you could inform the council who could take up the battle. If the parking space is legally designated, then it is a parking offence.

You could also let the local NHS authority know as its their midwife clinic and their staff. Not good PR for a NHS worker to stop those with disabilities accessing their local government children centre.
