I am normally polite but just shouted at a JW, feeling bad, WIBU?

I'm had my fair share of crap jobs including phone calls and knocking on doors to make ends meet and also appreciate JW mean well. I am polite to everybody I meet as I honestly believe it makes the world a nicer place/ I get treated better/ my kids have a better example.

Just now two JW knocked on the door, I've opened a few times to them politely explaining we are happy in our religion and won't be changed on the doorstep or attend elsewhere, wish them a good day and say bye. At the time they call I bet very few are in, so despite me usually juggling kids and dismissing them they return.

I was settling a baby and a toddler, one on the sofa in basket and for the first time ignored the door. They saw me walking up the path (no nets) so I was obviously ignoring it. He knocked firmly, knocked firmly then really put some welly into the knocker, I jumped let alone waking both kids in a a start.

I snapped and flung open the door and yelled 'well done for waking two babies trying to smack a hole in the door, DO NOT EVER visit my house again with your bloody propaganda' and flung it closed in their faces as he stuttered.

Ok I know it was rude, but understandable? I had to restrain myself and wondering if it's the stress being passed or them being unreasonable in their actions hammering like that.

It was rude of them to hammer the door, even more so if they could see you weren't going to answer. I hate it when people try and bang the door down and I don't even have sleeping babies.

Good on you! I would be cross too. i can understand one knock but he should've taken the hint when you didn't answer!

YWNBU at all! In fact you need a medal and then a glass of wine! Next time (if he dares to come back) try a bucket of water out of the upstairs window. Much more satisfying!

oh good.

If I had water or anything in my hands it probably would have been flung. Kids are not asleep, bf one and the other just threw my glass at that the wall as I got door so hoovering up glass (never normally have glass around, he was sleeping and it was on floor)

The postman saw me scream like a loony and looked terrified tapping gently on the door with a parcel soon after.

It got to me the arrogance of knocking over and over when being ignored.

Personal pet hate is people who don't get to the point ie hi i am such and such how are you today? Look you're after money just tell me why ffs. I don't blame you in your actions at all they were totally unreasonable hope they leave you alone now.

YWsoNBU. I had a dreadful couple of sleepless nights last week due to an ongoing health situation and finally found myself a spare couple of hours for a lie down on a Thursday afternoon. I was expecting no callers. The ringers on the phones went off. Just, and I mean JUST! into a lovely restful deep sleep and the doorbell goes like someone wants to tell me my car is on fire. I leapt up, shot downstairs only to find two of these jokers grinning inanely and launching straight into their spiel. Even an idiot could have seen that I was someone on the edge who had just woken up ffs. Did they stop? Did the enquire as to whether this was a good time? Hell no. I was very short with them and did squawk that they should make a note never to darken this doorstep again!

Must be the week for JWs, I had them round this week as well and now I'm feeling very unreasonable for telling them very politely that I wasn't interested. I obviously should have booby trapped them. Grin

i remember as a kid going to visit some friends of my parents. the bloke was very posh and had been very rich but he'd lost most of his money somehow (I was too young to understand or care )

he still acted very much like the lord of the manor type that he had been and when 2 JW types came to the door during our visit, he flung it open and bellowed "get off my land" at them. seeing as he was now living in a tiny terraced house with no front yard, these 2 poor people leapt straight backwards in fright and landed pretty much in the gutter.

I don't think they had done anything to deserve such a shouting, but for years afterwards me and my brother would open our bedroom doors and shout "get off my land to each" other rather than saying "come in"

I was under the impression they keep a 'do not visit' list too.

I asked to be put on it but still got another visit. So I've asked again.

Been nothing but polite each time but any more and I might not be so polite!

JW are usually scrupulously polite, so this one will probably be told to modify his behaviour, if he shares the story.

I find the 'you're in so you answer the door / you didn't answer so you can't have been in' logic, from anyone, immensely annoying and just nonsensical. What if you're changing a nappy?

Honestly JellyBelly? I don't think even if you'd threatened them with murder and turned the air blue with all the swear word combinations in the world, that it would make a difference to everyone's opinion. YWsoNBU even if you used the word "fucking" as a prelude to everything.

What I'd really like to do is introduce the JW's to the Talktalk door to door sales brigade, lock them up together in a small room and see who surrenders first.

My postman has a habit of ringing the doorbell and knocking very hard at the door, sounds like the bloody swat team are at my door!

I know exactly what you mean re arrogance to keep knocking when they know that you don't want to answer the door. We get all sorts of sales people and charity knockers around here, if I happen to be in the kitchen (at front of the house) when they are knocking and they see me they assume I am going to answer. If I don't know them I just shake my head at them and just go on my way. They hate it. Why should I answer the door to someone with a clipboard trying to sign me up to something? I am not obliged to.

I have taken to telling the hoards of Christians (and it is only them that do the door to door thing) that I am Jewish.

I'm not Jewish and never have been, I'm an atheist, but it stops them bothering me with their claptrap.

Not at all. Have you considered a blood donation sticker near the door though? That usually stops them as this a frowned on.
