AIBU?

to think Primark is the nearest thing to hell?

Always packed with people. Every time I enter it there is always someone having an argument, or shouting something.

I will trip over at least three pushchairs, and have a couple more rammed into my ankles.

It will take forever to squeeze past the vast amount of people in the aisles.

We will get shoved and bumped - never get an apology.

If you want to try something on prepare to lose a good portion of your day, if you decide to buy it you will lose the other portion of your day.

All I wanted was a pair of jeans.

Our Primark is good but our m & s is rubbish
Also find primark easier to shop in than h&m

Aren't all M&S rubbish. Don't know who their target customer is any more.

There are some snobby fuckers on MN

People rave about h&m for kids, some stuff is ok, but the quality is not good. Primark is better imo.

Report
Sparklingbrook · 24/04/2013 22:19

Some of the H&M kids stuff is a bit odd.

Our Primark is tidy, I don't buy a lot but do go in to look. Primark towels are good quality.

Cheap, low quality shit I wouldn't be seen dead in. A good example of why sometimes the saying 'you get what you pay for' is true.

Have you not watched the news?
Can you really avoid it being an ethical debate?

Crap stuff and yes, to packed and messy.

However, I do buy my children's underwear from there. All my children needed new underwear and it cost me £45 Shock so I am not going to go elsewhere and spend more, but I hate going in there and it stresses me out.

If you have a sort of funky style, you can find some interesting things in there. But, it's sort of a treasure hunt.

I've noticed that most of the things I spot that look promising have something critically wrong upon closer inspection. "Oh, this is a cute top. I like the cute colorful peacocks printed on the fabric and the way it drapes like a tunic. Oh. Wait. It's got these weird brass studs on the shoulders."

Like, something will be just fine. And then they add some bizarre little notion or detail that makes it shitty.

Primark in Selfridges at the Trafford centre is pretty good, a few select clothes, tidy, huge dressing rooms and they put your purchases in a selfridges bag.

I like Primark for some things
I do smell a snobby aroma here too AND I am watching Katie Hopkins on channel 4 right now

Primark and other high street stores use the same factories, you can't be up in arms about one but not the others. I believe H & M are better ethically, but I haven't found the quality to be any better. The worst high street stuff I have purchased recently has been New Look actually. I do worry about the production of my clothes and try and shop in charity shops etc, which is OK for me and DD (2) (although pretty expensive TBH), but try shopping on a budget for older boys and I find 2nd hand doesn't cut it. The boys coloured chinos are brilliant!

Wow, how long has there been a primark in Trafford centre selfridges? That's mad! Grin Totally going there

Hahaha at you get what you pay for. Or more like some of the expensive shops saw you coming. A fool and his money are soon parted.

Go go go! I was in shock, I had to check the labels to make sure Grin. Primarni dresses parked next to the over priced designer gear.

I love Primark.

Yes to all that MrsD said.

I think most people that slag it off for being 'shit quality' have never even seen primark clothes, actually they probably have but they didn't realise. They are the same as most high st stores quality wise.

Yep snobby fuckers.

I love Primark - it's all about what you choose. Heaven soft towels in bright colours and vast to boot, proper large old-lady cotton pants, cosy fleece tights and jeans that fit for less than fags. Perfectly decent quality, sniff, and great design.

Primark uses the same factories as all the rest of the British High Street - they're demonised cos they're cheap, not cos they're partic. guilty. And Primark's cheap cos it sells on volume not on margin - which in English is because they sell a lot, not because they mark it up.

I tried to mention that up thread DialsMavis, but I think it just got lost.

I do find it interesting that people get so up un arms about Primark being unethical. is it because it's cheap? where do they think other shops get the clothes from? Do they think its more ethical if the company make more money from each item that the perskn gets paid the same to make?

Report
juneybean · 24/04/2013 22:56

I like it, having lost enough weight to shop there and as a nanny I don't want to spend a lot on clothes that end up covered in paint or snot.

Do you really think people would keep going back to primark if it was so shit?

I've been shopping in primark for nearly 20 years. I still have a lovely long ribbed cotton sort of chunky knit cardi that I bought in primark about 16 yrs ago. Its not really fashionable anymore, but it is still in lovely condition.
