Interview requirements

I have a final round interview on Friday morning. I have literally just been told that I need to bring my passport PLUS two other forms of ID with my address on! As I am a recent graduate living alone in my dad's house (he lives abroad) I literally have nothing. Mobile phone bill is not acceptable apparently... And I turned off paper statements on my (only) bank account years ago. Utility bills etc obviously aren't in my name. I have no idea what I'm going to do and I'm really panicking. Passport and birth certificate (I don't drive) are probably the best I can do. I have been to several final round interviews but have never been asked for anything like this much ID, especially not at such short notice! Any ideas? Of course I'll do the best I can as I really want the job, but are these requirements unreasonable?

A passport should suffice. I would take everything you can think of, and explain your situation. Not a lot else you can do really is there?!

It might be worth getting a provisional license, if that has your address on, even if you've no intention of driving.

Go to your bank and ask for a printed statement. They may charge 50p for it.

That's what I'm going to do. I'll be able to show my passport and birth certificate at the very least, though obviously there's no address on either. I feel a little miffed as this is a graduate role (pretty much) so I can't believe my situation is that uncommon.

Some good ideas here, thanks. I'll hand over a bank statement if I have to, and if I can get one tomorrow (I'm already having to arrange a last-minute emergency trip home because of this!). Although is it just me who finds the idea of handing over a bank statement complete with huge overdraft and all my transactions more than a tad embarrassing and inappropriate? But if needs must... I'm so new to this whole job thing.

Are you on the electoral register at that address?

Have you just got the one bank account?

Attack the bank statement with a big fat marker pen. Cover every single transaction with it. They have no right (nor interest I would hope) to see any of the transactions. I actually think they would find it odd if you didn't do this.

Can you not print your own statement? I've never done it but I imagine it would print in the same format as you'd receive it in the post ie. with your name and address on.

Oh dear, sounds like a place I used to work at! It will just be HR going through the motions so explain your position at the interview. And do cross out all your transactions if you take a bank statement.

Every employer is supposed to make sure that you are who you say you are but most never bother!

Sounds like it might be for a DBS check (previously CRB) If so, a print out won't be acceptable unless you pop into a branch and get them to stamp it. Have you had a P60 or P45 in the last year?

If it's for DBS, your passport, birth cert and either a stamped bank print out, or P45/P60 would be enough.

I really feel for you. If I was ever asked for stuff like that I'd be really stuck - all our bills are online and I don't have drivers license or passport!!

This happens every time I go for a job and its a real pain.
Are you a recent graduate? If your dad's address was your home address when you registered at uni the registry might be able to give you something to confirm it.
The other thing to do is to phone the people you've got the interview with, I've been in this situation a few times and either they've told me to just bring what I can or they've been able to help me work out what I need to bring.

I am on the electoral roll and have actually just received a card for voting in the May elections - that really helps, thanks. I am a recent graduate, yes, so naturally hardly anything is in my name. I imagine that's the situation for many of my friends too. I think I'll be ok but could have done without the stress! I haven't even had the CRB check yet; that'll happen only if I get an offer...

Any bank I've worked for (four, at the last count...) couldn't give statements with addresses out, they have to be ordered and then sent to your home address, at a cost. Usually takes about a week or so remembers many, many arguments with irate customers

Oooh, what about letters from the student loan company?

Do you not have correspondence from the University or perhaps the Student Loan Company? Do you have any correspondence from doctors, hospital, dentist or even the vets? Do you have any insurance documents? Have you booked a holiday - you may have something for that?

If it's for a DBS check it's not a requirement that the company has any control over. The list of acceptable documents can be accessed here:

I might be able to dredge up some ancient UCAS and uni stuff but the company says it has to be dated within the last 3 months and show my address. I do almost everything including holidays and banking online - i thought it was a good idea! I imagine there'll be some leeway if I call them but this is really stressing me out!

Nope. I'm self-employed but earn way below the tax threshold (and can prove it) so not registered for tax either. Part of the problem is that I'm kind of invisible in some ways as I've never paid tax, claimed benefits or taken a loan. I think I'm going to do passport, birth certificate and electoral roll... if I can find them all!!

Any prescriptions? They have your address and date of birth on them.

Presciptions aren't on the list of acceptable documents. What about your NHS or NI card?

If you print your own bank statement showing your address, try taking it into a branch of your bank and asking them to stamp and sign it to confirm it matches what they hold on file.

I had to do this with my barclays account when working for barclays. I shit you not.

Realistically if you were offered the job there should be a grace period to provide this type of document so do your best and try not to stres.

Oh that's a shame I didn't look at that list, we accept them when people are applying for a bus pass.
