To think that a three year old is too young for a wrist watch

Haven't posted on aibu before so a tenderly dipping my toes In (-: DFL is coming to visit next week and has told DH that he has bought a wrist watch for dd1 as a present. She is only 3.5 and i really dont want her to wear a watch on her tiny wrist, she cant even tell the time yet. Am I unreasonable?

Just stick it on while he"s there and then put it away until she can tell the time. No harm done, he's only being kind.

She'll looooooove it...and you can show her the rudiments of time using it.

Ds1 had a child's working wristwatch at 3. Also a gift from in laws.He learned about numbers and how clocks work from it, even if he could not tell the time.

Don't think it needs to be a sticking point does it?

Ny niece gave my dd3 a watch recently. She's 3.5 and loves wearing it. She can't tell the time, the time isn't even set properly but she feels grown up and very pleased with herself. As long as its suitable for a child, yab a bit u I think.

Well yes, unnecessary, but it will make them both happy. My mum did the same thing with mine - it made her happy and they felt very grown up. They only wear them every so often.

My DD loved her wrist watch at a similar age - not something I would have thought to buy/wanted to buy for her, but my Nan got her one and she was thrilled with it.

She didn't wear it much after the first few days and obviously couldnt actally tell the time, but it was a nice game for the a while 2 seconds when she would tell us "it is eleventy time" or "now 15 o clock"

Yabu, DS insisted on having one at the same age and he loved it. It was also good for teaching him about numbers. She doesn't need to wear it all day, DFL was just doing something nice for your dd.

Does depend on the child. Dd1 got a learn to tell the time one at about that age, and has hardly even not worn a watch since.
Dd2 and ds are completely non-bothered by having a watch.

Mine wanted one at that age, I managed to find a very cheap but very nice one from Argos, made him very very happy.
