Over the Easter holidays the roads were traffic free. Proving that rush hour I'd caused by parents taking their kids to school. It should be law that all parents should be made to walk to school whatever the weather, getting rid of rush hour, and obesity. Also if people want a better school they'll have to walk further, or better still, make everyone attend they're local school thus making a fairer society.

I think people within a certain radius should walk. We used to walk to school, 20 mins, and walk past people pulling out if their drives with kids in the same school uniforms as mine. Then, as I walked home, they would pull back in again.

When people say the rush hour is caused by the school run, I always ask them why there's one at 5pm - do they think that's caused by 'school run' traffic?

Traffic may be quieter in rush hour, however go within a 10 mile radius of any type of tourist attraction and you'll find your missing traffic right there.

I can tell that the person who wrote it does not live near me, the traffic gets worse when when everyone piles down here for their holiday.

Many parents drop their DCs off on the way to work - walking them a mile there, then back to their house to collect their car is hardly an efficient use of their time. Also, as Travelin says, loads of parents take all of their annual leave during the school holidays, so of course the traffic will be much lighter. To summarise, yes, your FB friend is a nob.

So it is nothing to do with a significant number of adults taking holiday to coinside with their childrens? I suspect it is adults with children who are selfish enough to work most of the time which is causing rush hour congestion.

This would explain why there are fewer adults on the train during school holiday period.

rustybear - when the state schools in our area break up there is no difference in traffic levels, whereas once the private schools finish the traffic levels diminish rapidly and we do not get a 8.30am rush or a 5pm rush - private schools do tea time pickups for 5pm and so it is where a lot of the traffic comes from.

There are two private schools and the pupils come from a wide area, some are transported by coach and a lot arrive by train but still there is a very big difference in time to get to work in a car- 25 minutes in term time and 5 minutes when the private school break up. So I walk in term time and cycle in the holidays (less traffic about which is nicer on a bike)

Local schools do not necessarily equal schools within walking distance. Especially as LAs are closing small rural schools.
