Putting away the clean laundry with OH and come across one of his socks that has been through the wash several times.
He begs me not to throw it away, says that it has life left in it. In the end, we agree i force him to let Mumsnet decide.

So Mumsnet, what shall be the fate of this sock?

The Offending Article

NOTE: This sock has just come out of the wash and is, theoretically clean

Burn it.

TheBigJessie · 20/04/2013 19:32

He wants the sock. You don't. Therefore... Tell him to buy some stain remover and scrub it himself.

I used this (www.naturalcollection.com/shop/ecover-stain-remover-200ml-by-ecover/?PCode=FSGNC15) to get some rather similar-looking socks clean last week. And it worked.

Mixed vote here - I am in the 'yes, burn it so it can't come back for you in the night' camp and DH took a look and said, 'but it's a perfectly good sock...' (there is a reason why I am the sock purchaser in this household).

RhondaJean · 20/04/2013 19:48

If there were two of them I might say save it, why ruin another pair of socks but as there is only one it is useless anyway!

notsoyoniface · 20/04/2013 19:55

I have to say that I am with your dh on this. I have work socks that just feel nicer especially as I am on my feet all day these socks are years old and have molded to my foot shape. Get him to bleach the socks, so they come up white again.

ClaraOswald · 20/04/2013 20:02

Does this sock even HAVE a pair?

TheSeventhHorcrux · 20/04/2013 20:29

Oh no, we found its brother.

And it makes this sock look spring-fresh...

Even better - it can keep its relative company on the looooooong journey they are about to go on... Grin

Let him bring it back to life (it looks post-mortem to me so good luck with that). If he's a touch of Dr Frankestein about him then all is good.

If not: let him wear it one last time. No point in throwing away 'clean' clothes.

Then it has to go.

SacreBlue · 20/04/2013 21:05

I know MrH's has already been thru the wash but still....

The final results

It was a simple ceremony.

If you listened through OH's quiet sobs you could hear the screams as a portal to hell opened and welcomed a new member.

(The picture does not show the colour of the smoke - which was MURKY BROWN - grim!!!)

Thanks
dingit · 20/04/2013 21:48

No! It's got years of life in it!

MoonlightandRoses · 20/04/2013 21:49

Wine for DH - I'm sure it was tough for him, but it was the best thing all round really. Now, just as long as the sock never saw Nightmare on Elm Street Grin Grin

ClaraOswald · 20/04/2013 22:06

Dingit- I think that's the problem. Too much life in it!
