to throw away this bloody sock?!

Putting away the clean laundry with OH and come across one of his socks that has been through the wash several times.
He begs me not to throw it away, says that it has life left in it. In the end, we agree i force him to let Mumsnet decide.

So Mumsnet, what shall be the fate of this sock?

DH refuses to throw socks away even when there is more holes than sock.

I chuck them in the bin & tell him I am not using time, washing powder & electricity on washing holes.

OH is genuinely upset that nobody is defending his sock. He pleads for mercy I did!!!!! It's a work sock. Leave it be. Men have work socks!!!! Give him that small mercy. Grin

Could your OH think of another use for 'special sock?'. Give it to medical research? Looks like its very germy. They might be able to find a cure for some awful disease .

Re: odd socks, I read the following tip on here a while ago: each member of the family picks a distinctive sock type / colour. Buy about 20 the same pairs of each type. No more hassle pairing socks or wondering whose they are.

Haven't implemented it myself yet because I like matching socks to outfits

That sock has to go, especially now it has heard you discussing its demise. If you don't get rid of it - in shreds, preferably - it will come back in the night and strangle you in your sleep.

It reminds me of a pair of pyjama bottoms that dh had when I first knew him. He'd had this pair of pj bottoms since he was 14, and though they were clean and not unpleasant to look at (unlike the sock), they were practically transparent - plus the elastic was totally perished, so he had to hold them up with one hand when he walked around. He only used them when he was wandering round the flat (or wherever he was visiting), not in bed, and they were completely indecent - so I bought him some nice cotton boxers to replace the pjs. He was happy with this, and with some reluctance, put the pjs in the bin.

Then I had a realisation - as soon as I went home he was going to rescue the pjs and sneak them back into his drawers - so I got them out of the bin and ripped them up. He still gets this Sad face whenever I remind him of the incident. Grin

Ooh dear! I was prepared to stand up for the sock- have low hygiene standards and used to be a dry stone waller- but that is horrid!

My even lower standards ex-waller DH says no too.
