to throw away this bloody sock?!

Putting away the clean laundry with OH and come across one of his socks that has been through the wash several times.
He begs me not to throw it away, says that it has life left in it. In the end, we agree i force him to let Mumsnet decide.

So Mumsnet, what shall be the fate of this sock?

WolefGenius you have just reminded me of the long johns that are in DH's drawer. Also owned since he was 14 (and he's 41 this year) they sound remarkably similar to the PJ's you talk of. DH is at the football. I could get rid.
Why do they hold onto these things?

The only thing I would use such a sock for is polishing the brass on the front door and only then because nothing used for that task survives more than three uses. Or just bin it and put it out of its misery.

I'm clearly in the minority here because I'd keep it. If it's a work boot sock, then it's ideal. It looks awful, yes, but it is clean and it's for working in.

No point having nice pristine white socks to shove inside workboots and go toiling in, is there?

Grin 23-19 was our code for shit explosion in the nappy area all hands on deck!

You need a big thick knitted by Granny dark green or dark blue woolen sock for work boots, not a wee namby-pamby white once upon a time gym sock!

Tell him to man up with possible risk he asks you to knit...

Has it been changed much by going through the wash? If so, shudder to think what it was like before. If not, it's time to change your detergent.

If it smells fresh and your OH wants to wear it, let him keep it. Once it is in his boot no-one will see it. Lovely pets on your Flickr by the way.
