But isn't that the point of a discussion forum. That things can be hotly discussed, and that it would be unrealistic to expect everyone to agree with you?

What do you mean by a "closed shop"? Only certain approved people are allowed to post? It is moderated (tho don't know how closely as I don't post/read regularly enough).

But you can't just have threads where everyone is only allowed to agree with OP and all the posters. As you say totally unattainable. It can be very hurtful though and some comments can take your breath away with their total lack of empathy.

I'm not so bothered that I can't unread it. But I am bothered that, now it's been deleted, the op may think it was worse than it was iyswim. It needed deleting and I reported it. But I'd hate for the op to be reading back and thinking " what did they say" when it was complete and utter shite and bore no relation to the actual posts.
I may have also sent a "you fuckwit" pm, I'd like to point out for the record if I am banned that this if the first and only time I've ever sent an unpleasant pm.

Unfortunately, this is the nature of the internet. Many people are reasonable human beings but there are those who just LOVE the anonymity of it because it allows them to reveal their true selves. That which they keep hidden in real life because there would be consequences for them. of course there are those who are just as vile in real life but many more function reasonably out there but unleash the core of them behind the safety of a computer screen.

I have always felt that you see who someone truly is when you remove consequence (and also when you introduce alcohol, btw!)
