To ask about mmr here?

Have always thought that my ds1 is properly immunized, however now I am not so sure.I am also not sure if he is too old now anyway.

He was not allowed his mmr at the right age as back then they contained egg( he is now 18). Few years later his consultant said the vaccines are now safe for people allergic to egg and so he had the mmr at around 7 years old.

This is the only mmr jab he has had , am I right in thinking that if he had had the mmr at the right ages , then he would of had 2 jabs . Does that mean he is not immune , would you be worried considering he is now an adult or should he really get another jab. thx

the first injection covers up to 90% of children and the second injection improves that percentage. To maximise protection he should probably get the second jab.

I think there should be a booster?

I think he needs a booster too. I don't think there is an age limit as the illnesses can be unpleasant at any age. You could ring the practice nurse at your GP surgery to check?

Am now wondering if he had the first , but second wasn't then allowed , but had it later ?. Will contact doctors , I don't like the thought of him not being immune .

There is an entire topic just for vaccinations, couldn't you ask in there?

A lot of GPs are doing 'catch up' injections so he should contact his GP to ask if they can do it there.

Kobayashi, to be fair to the OP, the vaccination topic is often occupied by people with, um, unorthodox views about vaccination and avoided by anyone with views on vaccination based on proper science.

Ideally 2 doses of MMR vaccine are required to ensure a strong likelihood of immunity.

If he has had only one then he can have another, regardless of his age.

A friend of mine has just had a booster at 21 as he missed it when he was younger. Ring and check definitely.
